Late metastasis of rectal adenocarcinoma to the penis.

Rectal cancer metastasising to the penis is an exceptionally rare clinical entity, with less than 80 reported cases. Metastasis to the penis is typically identified in conjunction with widespread metastatic disease and as such is usually associated with a very poor prognosis. We report a case of a man who presented with a metastatic deposit in his penis 15 years after the initial diagnosis of rectal cancer.

Genitourethral foreign bodies: 20-year experience and outcomes from a single center.

The presentation of a foreign body in the lower urinary tract is a challenging urological emergency with highly variable management approaches. A retrospective cohort study was undertaken to identify the patients who presented with self-inserted genitourethral foreign body to adult tertiary centers within our local health network (Southern Adelaide Local Health Network, Adelaide, Australia) from October 2002 to October 2022. Patient demographics, type of foreign body, psychiatric comorbidities, retrieval techniques, complications, and readmission data were extracted.

Suprapubic catheter change: Evaluating YouTube videos as a resource for teaching junior doctors.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to assess the current level of experience and teaching practices for SPC change at our institution and, second, to assess the quality of YouTube videos as an educational tool for teaching SPC change.

Methods: A survey was conducted of 40 JMOs at our institution regarding SPC change. The first 20 YouTube videos on SPC change were included for analysis.

Introduction: The Internet is an extensively used source of medical education by the public. In particular, YouTube is a valuable source of information which can be used to improve patient education. However, there is no quality assurance regime for YouTube videos pertaining to medical education.

Gastrectomy mortality in Australia.

Background: Despite advances in medical management and endoscopic therapy, gastrectomy remains an important yet high-risk procedure for a range of benign and malignant upper gastrointestinal pathologies. No study has previously analysed Australian gastrectomy perioperative mortality rate (POMR). This retrospective, population-based cohort study was conducted to determine the Australian national gastrectomy POMR, allowing state-based and regional trends and outcomes to be assessed.
