Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary malignant brain tumor in adults with a poor prognosis despite aggressive therapy. Here, we hypothesized that daily host signaling regulates tumor growth and synchronizes circadian rhythms in GBM. We find daily glucocorticoids promote or suppress GBM growth through glucocorticoid receptor (GR) signaling depending on time of day and the clock genes, Bmal1 and Cry.

Lower extremity edema and compression are potential causes of poor soft tissue healing and flap failure for patients who suffer lower extremity trauma. This review summarizes techniques aimed at reducing edema and mechanical pressure in these patients as well as those undergoing soft tissue coverage techniques. We conducted a literature review for postoperative nursing management to reduce edema in the lower extremity, following traumatic injury.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor in adults with a poor prognosis despite aggressive therapy. A recent, retrospective clinical study found that administering Temozolomide in the morning increased patient overall survival by 6 months compared to evening. Here, we tested the hypothesis that daily host signaling regulates tumor growth and synchronizes circadian rhythms in GBM.

Background: Women with a new cancer diagnosis face complex decisions about interventions aiming to preserve their fertility. Decision aids are more effective in supporting decision making than traditional information provision. We describe the development and field testing of a novel patient decision aid designed to support women to make fertility preservation treatment decisions around cancer diagnosis.

The aim of this research is to sensitise readers to issues of inclusion and exclusion on campus at ITB in order to deepen our capacity to empathise with our students in a meaningful, accessible and evocative way in relation to ethnicity and/or nationality. Using Photovoice Methodology (PVM), the objective is to investigate the use of space and place that students occupy on campus. The outcomes of the research through images and text reveal surroundings on campus that students find inclusive and exclusive.

Within the UK, there is growing recognition that individuals will need to take increased responsibility for managing their own health for there to be improvements in population health. The current evidence base on self care interventions reflects an interest in enhancing self care knowledge, skills and behaviour in relation to the management of long-term conditions. In contrast, this paper reports on a community-based self care initiative that was designed to promote self care approaches in the general population.

There are few reports of the effects of glutathione-depleting agents administered for periods longer than 24 hr on the turnover of glutathione (GSH) in mammalian tissues. Studies of such effects are important in relation to the protection of tissues from damage from, for example, reactive metabolites derived from xenobiotics. In the investigation described here, 1,2-dibromoethane dibromide)-a widely used insecticide, nematocide, fungicide and petrol additive, which is hepato- and nephrotoxic-was administered to rats and the effects on non-protein thiol contents and GSH-related enzyme activities were determined in liver and kidney.

In a group of 19 subjects suffering from erythropoietic protoporphyria the administration of beta-carotene appeared to produce improvement based on a subjective assessment of alterations in exposure times required to produce the symptoms and signs of the condition. This clinical improvement however failed to show a direct correlation with the prophyrin levels in blood and faeces, or with the estimation by phototesting of the minimal response dose within the action spectrum of 400-600 nm.

The paraquat content of urine can be directly determined by high-speed liquid chromatography using ultraviolet spectrophotometric detection. The method separates paraquat (and diquat) from the ultraviolet-absorbing components of urine and no extraction or pre-treatment of the sample is required prior to analysis. Concentrations down to 100 mug/1 of paraquat in urine were determined.

Seven patients undergoing treatment for cutaneous hepatic porphyria had serial measurements of their plasma uroporphyrin. In each case there was a progressive fall during treatment but even in remission the levels did not return to normal. There was a significant correlation between urinary and plasma uroporphyrin concentrations.
