Spherical PbSe@SiO2 nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized within reverse micelles via metal alkoxide hydrolysis and condensation within a microemulsion system. These core-shell nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), NIR absorption spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, and TEM electron diffractions. It shows that the obtained core-shell structures have a spherical shape with narrow size distribution (average size approximately 35 nm) and smooth surfaces.

A new one-pot synthetic method for preparing core/shell YF3@SiO2 nanoparticles with different morphologies, from spherical to elongated structures ("pearl necklace"), is described; absorbance and photoluminescence spectroscopy reveals intrinsic but no extrinsic defects in the YF3.

In the present work, the relationship between residual solvents concentration and ampicillin trihydrate crystals stability has been investigated. The amounts of residual solvents determined by GC, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were used for characterization of solid state. The obtained results have shown good relationship between concentration of methylene chloride (as a critical residue solvent) and degree of ampicillin trihydrate crystallinity.

Objective: The purpose of this report is to evaluate our results in patients who underwent prosthetic bony reconstruction after chest wall resection.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients who underwent chest wall resection and reconstruction with prosthetic material at the Mayo Clinic.

Results: From January 1, 1977, to December 31, 1992, 197 patients (109 male patients and 88 female patients) underwent chest wall resection and reconstruction with prosthetic material.
