A mixed methods approach to describe the efficacy of lift assist device use to reduce low back musculoskeletal disorder risk factors during three common patient extrication scenarios.

This mixed-method study evaluated the efficacy of lift assist device use (Binder®, Eagle®, Maxi Air®) relative to manual lifting/care-as-usual in reducing low back muscle activity and perceived exertion during simulated patient extrication tasks. User feedback was recorded to identify factors that might influence use. Twenty paramedics performed a floor to stretcher lift, lateral transfer, and confined space extrication care-as-usual and with lift assist devices.

Identifying the critical physically demanding tasks performed by personal support workers in Canada.

Due to increased work demands, personal support workers (PSWs) are experiencing more work-related injuries. However, little is known about PSW work tasks and their corresponding physical demand. The purpose of this study was to identify critical tasks that are physically demanding and completed frequently as identified by PSWs.

The Antibacterial and Remineralizing Effects of Biomaterials Combined with DMAHDM Nanocomposite: A Systematic Review.

Researchers have developed novel nanocomposites that incorporate additional biomaterials with dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate (DMAHDM) in order to reduce secondary caries. The aim of this review was to summarize the current literature and assess the synergistic antibacterial and remineralizing effects that may contribute to the prevention of secondary caries. An electronic search was undertaken in MEDLINE using PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and Cochrane databases.

Use of the Myocardial Performance Index in Decreased Fetal Movement Assessment: A Case-Control Study.

Objectives: To determine whether there are any fetal cardiac function changes, as measured by the myocardial performance index (MPI), in pregnancies complicated by decreased fetal movement (DFM).

Methods: We performed a prospective cross-sectional case-control study of 50 DFM and 50 uncomplicated third-trimester pregnancies matched within 2 gestational weeks. Routine ultrasound growth and well-being parameters as well as MPI were measured.

How parents perceive and feel about participation in community activities. The comparison between parents of preschoolers with and without Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The present study compared how parents of preschoolers with and without Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) perceived and felt about participation in community activities. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 380 Hong Kong parents of preschoolers with ASD and 214 Hong Kong parents of preschoolers without ASD. The two groups were not different in their willingness and frequency of participation in community activities.
