Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) stands as one of the most prevalent types of thyroid cancers, characterized by a propensity for in-situ recurrence and distant metastasis. The high mobility group protein (HMGB1), a conserved nuclear protein, plays a pivotal role in carcinogenesis by stimulating tumor cell growth and migration. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism driving aberrant HMGB1 expression in PTC necessitates further elucidation.

Background: Rectovaginal fistula (RVF) is an abnormal channel formed by epithelial tissue between the anterior wall of the rectum and the posterior wall of the vagina, which manifests as vaginal gassing and defecation. It is one of the common complications of female pelvic surgeries. With the increased number of proctectomies for rectal cancer, the number of postoperative rectovaginal fistulas also increases.

Background: The nomogram for postoperative prediction of overall survival (OS) in patients' synchronous colorectal carcinomas (SCC) was developed and validated by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO)-based Cox regression.

Methods: The data was obtained from the SEER database of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) more than one time between 2004 and 2013. Patients who had CRC more than 3 times or multiple metachronous primary carcinomas were excluded.

Introduction: Total mesorectal excision (TME) has been the gold standard for the surgical treatment of mid-low rectal cancer, but traditional TME removal of Denonvilliers' fascia (DVF) is too low and is prone to damage the connecting branches of the bilateral neurovascular bundles, which can lead to posturogenital dysfunction. A recently published multicenter randomised controlled trial revealed that TME with complete preservation of DVF (CP-DVF) has protective effects on postoperative urogenital function for male patients with rectal cancer with specific staging and location (preoperative staging T1-4N0-2M0, but T1-2 for anterior rectal wall). Our previous studies have confirmed that TME with partial preservation of DVF (PP-DVF) could also achieve satisfactory results regardless of the circumferential location of the tumour.

Although major advances were achieved in colorectal cancer (CRC) therapy, major concerns still remain on proper control of cancer metastasis and chemo-resistance in order to achieve satisfactory general treatment response. Previous studies suggested that OTUB1 (OTU domain-containing ubiquitin aldehyde-binding protein 1) serves as regulator of gene ubiquitination and participates in the pathogenesis of multiple malignancies. Therefore, to discover its molecular mechanism in CRC tumor growth and metastasis will contribute in CRC treatment strategy development.

Aim: This study was aimed to analyze the incidence, risk factors, and management of chylous ascites (CA) after radical D3 resection for colorectal cancer, and to construct a predicting nomogram for prolonged resolution of CA.

Method: Consecutive colorectal cancer patients who underwent radical D3 resection were included. Logistic analysis was used to identify risk factors of postoperative CA, as well as prolonged CA resolution.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract. In this study, we had examined the biological role of USP43 in colorectal cancer. USP43 protein and mRNA abundance in clinical tissues and five cell lines were analyzed with quantitative real-time PCR test (qRT-PCR) and western blot.

Background: The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines recommend examination of a minimum of 12 lymph nodes (LNs) for accurate staging of a single case of colorectal cancer. However, the guidelines do not support the examination of LNs in synchronous colorectal carcinoma (SCC). This study aimed to investigate the association between lymph node yield and the prognosis of SCC patients.

Purpose: Rectovaginal fistula (RVF) is a complicated and troublesome complication of low anterior resection (LAR) for rectal cancer. We aimed to investigate the risk factors for post-LAR RVF and develop a predictive nomogram.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 821 female patients with rectal cancer who underwent LAR between October 2010 and October 2018.

Purpose: Primary squamous cell carcinoma is a rare malignancy in the thyroid gland (SCCTh). The overall prognosis of this carcinoma is poor. This study aimed to explore the application of Raman spectroscopy in investigating the expression of CK5/6 and P63 in SCCTh.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a novel type of noncoding RNAs, play critical roles in the initiation and progression of cancer. Emerging studies also shows that circRNAs may function as potential markers for cancer diagnosis and treatment. However, the diagnostic value of circRNAs in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains need to be unearthed.

RET proto-oncogene (RET) mutations were proved to be related to the development of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). We aimed to analyze the role of RET mutations in cervical lymph node metastasis in patients with MTC. Forty-nine patients with preoperatively diagnosed MTC by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) who underwent bilateral total thyroidectomy with cervical lymphadenectomy were included.

Objective: To explore the efficacy of radiotherapy combined with surgery for locally advanced rectal mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Methods: Clinical data of patients with locally advanced rectal mucinous adenocarcinoma (T3-4 and/or N+) diagnosed by postoperative pathology from 1992 to 2013 were retrieved from the US Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Patients with local excision only, tumor biopsy or combined organ excision and incomplete follow-up information were excluded.

Background: Major resection (MR) is recommended for cases with T2 finding after local excision (LE) of early rectal cancer, but the revision procedure is accompanied with high morbidity. We evaluated the oncological safety of LE followed by adjuvant radiotherapy as a rectum-preserving alternative to MR for T2 early rectal cancer.

Methods: A total of 3786 patients with T2N0M0 rectal adenocarcinoma between 1998 and 2013 were included from the SEER database.

Local excision is an alternative to radical surgery that is indicated in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) who have a good response to chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Regional lymph node status is a major uncertainty during local excision of LARC following CRT. We retrospectively reviewed clinicopathologic variables for 244 patients with LARC who were treated at our institute between December 2000 and December 2013 in order to identify independent predictors of regional lymph node metastasis.
