A case is reported of an old female patient with exogenic allergic alveolitis which was first diagnosed as pneumonia progressing in the presence of long-term and intensive antibiotic treatment. Detailed analysis of the case history gave grounds for suspected drug-related exogenic allergic alveolitis. Discontinuation of antibiotics, administration of glucocorticoids and antiplatelet drugs led to recovery.

Sixty-seven cases of prolonged pneumonia were analyzed. The study found that in cases with a typical onset the efficacy of antibiotics with predominantly bactericidal activity was much higher when they were administered in combination with glucocorticosteroids (GCS); bacteriostatic preparations were not used in such cases. In prolonged pneumonia with an atypical onset the efficacy of mainly bacteriostatic antibiotics was significantly higher than that of bactericidal ones, but the efficacy of both did not increase when they were combined with GCS.

In alcoholics, caseous pneumonia is characterized by a malignant progressive course and therapy resistance. The toxic allergic syndrome in such patients may be a diagnostic sign of transition of benign forms of tuberculosis to caseous pneumonia.

Aim: Analysis of the onset and course of lingering pneumonia (LP) to reveal its risk factors and assess its treatment efficacy depending on the presence of the above factors.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis has been made of 67 cases of nonhospital pneumonia running for more than 4 weeks.

Results: A positive correlation was found between LP duration and time since LP onset till hospitalization, gamma-globulin level on the hospitalization day, number of antibiotics used in LP treatment.

Conformational properties of ceruloplasmin were studied immediately in blood serum of healthy volunteers, patients with tuberculosis, with pulmonary cancer, with pneumonia and with Wilson-Konovalov disease. The glycoprotein conformation was found to depend on the volunteer physiological state and/or available pathology. The ceruloplasmin conformation and status of its copper-containing sites of the I type affected the enzyme oxidase properties and hence routine colorimetric procedures require some corrections for estimation of ceruloplasmin concentration and activity in blood serum.

Analysis of the clinical course of acute pneumonia in pulmonary tuberculosis patients is presented. The lowest rate of acute pneumonia morbidity was found in patients with active tuberculosis during antituberculosis therapy. As soon as the specific process subsides and its activity diminishes acute pneumonia morbidity grows.

The critical frequency of flicker fusion in the central and four peripheral points of the retina was investigated in 12 test subjects during and after one hour exposure to wide-band noise of 95 dBA. The subjects showed two types of response: three displayed an increase and nine a decrease of the flicker fusion critical frequency as compared to the control level. The changes showed individual variations.

Light sensitivity of the central and peripheral parts of the human retina has been studied in an hour exposure to broadband noise of 95 dBA intensity and in an after-effect period. The indices of time threshold of dark adaptation and the visual acuity restoration time at reduced brightness were analysed. Four types of response to acoustic stimulus have been revealed.
