Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the prognostic significance of the comprehensive malnutritional index (CNI) in 240 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) who received neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery.
  • The CNI was calculated using factors like hemoglobin, lymphocyte count, albumin, body mass index, and body weight percentage, categorizing patients into CNI-low and CNI-high groups based on median values.
  • Results showed that higher CNI was linked to better disease-free and overall survival rates, indicating that optimizing preoperative nutrition is essential for improving patient outcomes in LARC.

This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of the pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) who received neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) followed by total mesorectal excision. We retrospectively collected and analyzed the clinicopathological data of 215 resected LARC patients. X-tile software was used to determine the optimal threshold value for PIV in predicting overall survival (OS).

Background: Conventional nutritional metrics are closely associated with the prognosis of patients with radically resected esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Nevertheless, the prognostic implications of muscle and adipose tissue composite indexes in ESCC remain unknown.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinicopathological data of 304 patients who underwent resected ESCC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how low-dose radiotherapy (LDRT) combined with immunotherapy can enhance the formation and development of tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) in lung adenocarcinoma, which can lead to improved patient outcomes.
  • Results showed that the presence and maturity of TLSs, particularly CD8+ T cells within them, were linked to better survival rates and antitumor effects in both patient samples and a mouse model.
  • This combination therapy represents a new strategy for boosting immune response in lung cancer treatment by increasing the quantity and maturity of TLSs, leading to promising results in fighting the disease.

Objective: To investigate the use of non-contrast-enhanced (NCE) and contrast-enhanced (CE) CT radiomics signatures (Rad-scores) as prognostic factors to help improve the prediction of the overall survival (OS) of postoperative colorectal cancer (CRC) patients.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 65 CRC patients who underwent surgical resection in our hospital as the training set, and 19 patient images retrieved from The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) as the external validation set. In training, radiomics features were extracted from the preoperative NCE/CE-CT, then selected through 5-fold cross validation LASSO Cox method and used to construct Rad-scores.

Background: Lung cancer has some of the highest morbidity and mortality worldwide among cancers, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounting for 85% of lung cancer diagnoses. Severe pulmonary hemorrhage (PH) is a serious potential adverse event in the treatment of lung cancer with bevacizumab. Significant clinical differences have been observed between patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and those with lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) after bevacizumab treatment; however, the underlying causes is unclear and requires further study.

Real-time assessment of therapeutic response in patients with advanced lung cancer presents a major challenge throughout the treatment process. Currently, computed tomography imaging is often used; however, it is radiation-based and hysteretic and is not suitable for repeated use as a real-time assessment. Blood biomarkers represent a novel solution for assessing therapeutic response in patients with advanced lung cancer.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) plus nimotuzumab with or without concurrent chemotherapy (CCT) for patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC).

Patients And Methods: A total of 50 newly diagnosed patients with LA-NPC treated at the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University between November 2011 and January 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients received the combined treatment modality of nimotuzumab plus IMRT.
