Objective: To determine the step count and self-reported activity levels for obese and nonobese pediatric patients following concussion and predict self-reported symptoms, quality of life, and psychological health over time.

Study Design: Participants completed the Post-Concussion Symptom Scale (PCSS), Pediatric Quality of Life (PedsQL), and Behavioral Symptom Inventory-18 (BSI-18) at an initial visit (<72 hours), 3-5 days postinjury, 10-18 days postinjury, and 1 and 2 months postinjury. Objectives: Despite the growing evidence of the clinical utility of blood-brain biomarkers in adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI), less is known about the performance of these biomarkers in children. We characterize age-dependent differences in levels of ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in children without TBI.

Methods: Plasma biobank specimens from children and adolescents aged 0-<19 years without TBI were obtained, and UCH-L1 and GFAP levels were quantified.

We examined the extent to which intentionally underperforming a goal-directed reaching task impacts how memories of recent performance contribute to sensorimotor adaptation. Healthy human subjects performed computerized cognition testing and an assessment of sensorimotor adaptation, wherein they grasped the handle of a horizontal planar robot while making goal-directed out-and-back reaching movements. The robot exerted forces that resisted hand motion with a spring-like load that changed unpredictably between movements.

Objectives: The aims of the study were (1) to determine the frequency of neck pain in patients diagnosed with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) or concussion in a pediatric level 1 trauma center emergency department (ED), (2) to identify variables associated with neck pain in this population, and (3) to report on aspects of care received in the ED including imaging and medication use.

Methods: This is a retrospective chart review of 652 patients presenting to a pediatric ED with diagnosis of concussion/mTBI. Charts were reviewed for the following information: baseline demographic information, mechanism of injury, cause of mTBI, presence or absence of neck pain, point tenderness in the neck on physical examination, and whether the patient followed up within our health system in the 6 months after injury.

Objective: To quantify the association between early neurologic recovery, practice pattern variation, and endotracheal intubation during established status epilepticus, we performed a secondary analysis within the cohort of patients enrolled in the Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial (ESETT).

Methods: We evaluated factors associated with the endpoint of endotracheal intubation occurring within 120 minutes of ESETT study drug initiation. We defined a blocked, stepwise multivariate regression, examining 4 phases during status epilepticus management: (1) baseline characteristics, (2) acute treatment, (3) 20-minute neurologic recovery, and (4) 60-minute recovery, including seizure cessation and improving responsiveness.

Pruritus is a debilitating symptom for patients with Alagille syndrome (ALGS). In a previously reported trial of maralixibat, an investigational antipruritic agent, itching was assessed using a digital diary based on twice-daily caregiver observation of itching severity (Itch Reported Outcome, ItchRO[Observer]). The goal of this study was to characterize pruritus in participants with ALGS at baseline in this trial, as assessed by the ItchRO instrument and the physician-observed clinician scratch scale (CSS), relative to biomarkers putatively associated with pruritus and health-related quality of life assessment.
