Eligible studies reported PFP patients over 18 years of age undergoing an exercise protocol with additional taping that was maintained outside of exercise sessions (PROSPERO ID: CRD42023422792).

Discectomy for Lumbar Disc Herniation in Pediatric and Adolescent Populations: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Corroborative evidence for discectomy in pediatric or adolescent patients remains scarce, with this single-arm meta-analysis investigating discectomy for lumbar disc herniation (LDH) within this population. PubMed, Embase (Elsevier), CiNAHL, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched. Eligible studies reported pediatric patients under 21 years of age with a diagnosis of LDH that was treated surgically with discectomy.

The effect of exercise post vertebral augmentation in osteoporotic patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This meta-analysis investigated the effects of exercise on Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores following vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty in osteoporotic fractures. A literature search of PubMed, EMBASE (Elsevier), CiNAHL, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted from database inception to October 6, 2022. Eligible studies reported osteoporosis patients over 18 years of age with a diagnosis of at least one vertebral fracture via radiography or clinical assessment.

A Retrospective Comparative Study of Long-Term Outcomes Following Cervical Total Disc Replacement Versus Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion.

Introduction The traditional treatment for patients with radiculopathy and myelopathy caused by degenerative disc disease was anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). However, a documented complication of ACDF is adjacent segment degeneration (ASD). An alternative that was developed was total disc replacement (TDR).

Clinically orientated classification incorporating shoulder balance for the surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Purpose: The achievement of shoulder balance is an important measure of successful scoliosis surgery. No previously described classification system has taken shoulder balance into account. We propose a simple classification system for AIS based on two components which include the curve type and shoulder level.

Incidence and treatment of delayed symptoms of CSF leak following lumbar spinal surgery.

Purpose: Dural tear (DT) resulting in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak is a common complication of spinal surgery. Most cases of DT are recognised and addressed intraoperatively; however, a small percentage of cases may present at a later stage with delayed symptoms of CSF leak, either due to an unrecognised intraoperative DT or as a result of a de novo delayed DT. Apart from few reports describing delayed symptomatic CSF leaks, most studies tend not to separate intraoperatively recognised DTs from delayed symptomatic CSF leaks.

Horner's syndrome secondary to intervertebral disc herniation at the level of T1-2.

A 54-year-old Caucasian woman presented with a 6 week history of periscapular pain and a T1 radiculopathy associated with Horner's syndrome. MRI of her cervicothoracic spine revealed an intervertebral disc herniation at the level of T1-2. During investigation she experienced some improvement in her symptoms and a conservative approach was pursued.

Early results of a remotely-operated magnetic growth rod in early-onset scoliosis.

Conventional growing rods are the most commonly used distraction-based devices in the treatment of progressive early-onset scoliosis. This technique requires repeated lengthenings with the patient anaesthetised in the operating theatre. We describe the outcomes and complications of using a non-invasive magnetically controlled growing rod (MCGR) in children with early-onset scoliosis.

The outcome of extra-abdominal fibromatosis treated at a tertiary referral centre.

Purpose: To review the outcomes of patients with extra-abdominal fibromatosis treated at a tertiary referral centre.

Methods: A retrospective review of a series of 72 patients with fibromatosis treated at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) between 1980 and 2009, with a median follow up of 4 years (1-17 years).

Results: Forty patients were primary referrals, and 32 more had operations at the referring hospital.

Arthroscopic ankle arthrodesis: are results reproducible irrespective of pre-operative deformity?

Background: Arthroscopic ankle arthrodesis is gaining in popularity. It has been shown to have a shorter time to union and less morbidity than traditional open procedures. The arthroscopic technique has been mainly used for ankles with minimal deformity.

Evaluation of the modified Elmslie-Trillat procedure for patellofemoral dysfunction.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the Elmslie-Trillat procedure for recurrent patellar dislocation, patellofemoral pain (with extensor mechanism malalignment), or a combination of both. Thirty-two patients underwent the modified Elmslie-Trillat procedure, consisting of a lateral retinacular release and medialization of the tibial tuberosity for recurrent patellar dislocation, patellofemoral pain, or both. Twenty-nine of 32 patients were available for follow-up.

Arthroscopic excision of the fabella.

The fabella (little bean) is a sesamoid bone found in the lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle. Its incidence varies from 10% to 30%, and when present, usually occurs bilaterally. The fabella can lead to posterolateral knee pain either due to cartilage softening (chondromalacia fabellae) or other osteoarthritic changes on its articular surface.

Complications and functional outcome following fixation of complex, intra-articular fractures of the distal radius with the AO Pi-Plate.

This study investigates the efficacy of the AO Pi-plate in the treatment of complex, intra-articular fractures of the distal radius. We retrospectively analysed the clinical and radiological results of 19 consecutive patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation for dorsally displaced, intra-articular fractures of the distal radius using the AO Pi-plate. The final functional outcome was assessed using the Gartland & Werley scoring system.
