Minimal hepatic encephalopathy in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (mHE) is characterized by some minimal unspecific alterations of cerebral functions that can only be detected by neuropsychological or neurophysiological diagnostic tests, which dysfunctions nevertheless interfere with the patient's daily living. Early recognition of these impairments may prevent the progression or delay the development of the disease to overt hepatic encephalopathy. The aim of this study was to diagnose mHE in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Risk of the recurrent headache and migraine appearance within the family.

Aim: The aim of this research was to determine the risk for family appearance of the recurrent headache (non-migraine and migraine).

Methods: The research was conducted in Vojvodina, the Northern Province of Serbia. The population of Vojvodina is around 2 million people belonging to more than 20 different ethnic groups.

[Assessment of memory in patients with rheumatoid arthritis].

[Effects of calcium antagonists on brain ischemia].

Introduction: Stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in adults; about half of those who survive become dependent on others in performing personal activities of daily living. Ischemia disturbs calcium cellular homeostasis, whereas calcium channel blockers re-establish it. This study was aimed at assessing benefits of calcium channel blockers on the outcome of rehabilitation of the patients afflicted by ischemic stroke.

[Functional hearing examinations in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 1 in regard to disease duration].

Introduction: Problems of hearing disturbances in persons suffering from diabetes have been attracting great attention for many decades.

Material And Methods: In this study we examined the auditory function of 50 patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 1 of different duration by analyzing results of pure-tone audiometry and brainstem auditory evoked potentials. Introduction: Heinz Leymann defined this phenomenon as a hostile and unethical communication. In his definition Leymann points out that the distinction between "conflict" and "mobbing" does not focus on what is done or how it is done, but rather on the frequency and duration of whatever is done. The exposure to the strain of mobbing begins to result in psychiatrically or psychosomatically pathological conditions due to the accumulation of negative emotions.

[Correlation of hearing function findings in regard to other, subsequent complication of diabetes mellitus type 1].

Introduction: Hearing loss is considered to be a subsequent complication of diabetes.

Material And Methods: Auditory function was analyzed in 50 patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type I, and through results of pure-tone audiometry and brainstem auditory evoked potentials in regard to the existence of subsequent complications of the disease, diabetic neuropathy (n=20) and retinopathy (n=13).

Results And Discussion: The results were correlated with the ones in those having a disease, but without these complications and the control group of 30 healthy examinees of the adequate gender and age.

[Reaction time of drivers who caused road traffic accidents].

Introduction: Human factor is the single cause of road traffic injuries in 57%, and together with other factors in more than 90% of all road traffic accidents. Human factor includes many aspects, where reaction time is very important.

[Work stressors among physicians with and without the acquired cardiovascular disorders: assessment using the Occupational Stress Index].

The Occupational Stress Index (OSI) questionnaire for physicians was used in a case-control study, with a high participation rate (> 90%). The study was carried out among physicians employed at clinical institutions in Novi Sad, receiving their medical care at the health center situated within the Novi Sad clinical center. The cases were physicians with one or more of the acquired (potentially stress-related) cardiovascular disorders (ACVD) (myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, arterial hypertension and certain arrhythmias).

[Gender as a key effect modifier of the relationship between physician work stressors and the acquired cardiovascular disorders].

Results: Patterns of disease manifestation, sociodemography, risk factors, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) tendency and exposure to work stressors differed in male compared to female physicians with ACVD.

[Event-related potentials following exercise bouts of different intensity].

Introduction: A number of articles on physical activity analyze the effects of acute bouts of physical exercise on the whole body. These experiments mainly include questionnaires and measurements of reaction time. The use of event-related potentials in laboratories for functional diagnostics is only of recent date.

Level of neurotic disorders among drivers causing traffic accidents.

Different aspects of driver personality may affect traffic safety. Extended driver reaction time causes deceleration of the reflexes, which is a major cause of traffic accidents. Cornell index was used in 30 drivers responsible for traffic accidents, with the aim to measure their level of neurotic disorder and compare them with results of controls (drivers not responsible for traffic accidents).

[Importance of use of dynamometry during medical rehabilitation in patients after stroke].

Introduction: Rehabilitation centers pay great attention to recovery of motor functions. Dynamometry is used for monitoring and objective overall assessment of damage and recovery of motor functions.

Medial olivocochlear pathway represents the final part of efferent acoustic pathway which comes from the superior olivary complex ending at outer hair cells. Activation of medial olivocochlear system (MOCS) alters the cochlear output decreasing the travelling wave within cochlea. Stimulation of MOCS provides protection against moderate levels of noise, encoding noise signals as well as selecting hearing attention.

[Neuropsychological study of patients after stroke and during medical rehabilitation].
