Objective: To assess the incidence and characteristics of injuries that occurred during the 2021 season of the Paulista Soccer Championship during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and to compare these characteristics before and after the championship interruption.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted using an electronic form developed by the Medical Committee of the Paulista Soccer Federation. The results were sent by the team physicians of Series A1 after each round of the Paulista Soccer Championship.
Background: In horses, systemic calcinosis is a rare syndrome characterised by muscle lesion associated with the mineralisation of large muscle groups or other organs, in the absence of an alternative cause for the calcification, such as toxic, enzootic or metabolic. Molecular and histopathological aspects of the disease are still poorly elucidated.
Objectives: To describe the epidemiological, pathological and molecular aspects of systemic calcinosis in a convenience sample of six horses submitted to necropsy in the Southern and Midwestern regions of Brazil.
The objective was to analyze the association of race/skin color in health care, in adults hospitalized with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)/COVID-19, between March 2020 and September 2022, with Brazil as the unit of analysis. This is a cross-sectional study that used the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System (SIVEP-Gripe) database and had a population composed of adults (≥ 18 years) and the final classification was SARS by COVID-19 or unspecified SARS. The direct effect of skin color on in-hospital mortality was estimated through logistic regression adjusted for age, gender, schooling level, health care system and period, stratified by vaccination status.

Nevertheless, the sparsity of the data still claims more information about toxicity and survival and their association with both dosimetric and geometric aspects of this treatment.
Aim: To assess the toxicity and survival outcome of radiosurgery in patients with multiple (four or more lesions) brain metastases.
Objective: To evaluate children and adolescents with polytrauma and fractures of the pelvis and proximal and diaphyseal femur and correlate the impact of these conditions and clinical outcomes.
Methods: Retrospective study carried out in a public hospital in Taboão da Serra (SP), with pediatric patients with polytrauma from January 2012 to December 2021. In total, 44 patients were evaluated, 70.
A 7-year-old captive female jaguar (Panthera onca) was presented with a 7-day history of dyspnoea and weight loss. Clinical examination revealed hepatomegaly and elevated serum alanine aminotransferase activity. Pulmonary ultrasonography revealed comet-tail images and an alveolar pattern was detected on thoracic radiography.

The present study aimed to evaluate the association between obesity and COVID-19 mortality and length of stay in ICU patients, and how these associations were modified by age groups. We performed a retrospective multicenter cohort study with data obtained from a hospital-based registry. The sample consisted of 8183 ICU hospitalized patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: Hospitalization data for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) were obtained using the SIVEP-Gripe Database. All hospitalized adults who were diagnosed as COVID-19 or unspecified SARS, between January and December 2020, were included in the analysis.

Fatal infections with are common in domestic cats, and jaguars () are believed carriers of this protozoan. Fatal infections have never been described in jaguars before. Thus, this study describes such an infection in a 5-month-old captive-reared jaguar that presented hyporexia and died at 26 days after the first clinical signs.

However, few studies have evaluated the effectiveness of vaccine protection against Clostridium chauvoei and the treatment of the disease in calves exhibiting early or advanced clinical courses. This study describes twelve blackleg cases in unvaccinated calves and in calves that received a single dose of the vaccine.

Babesiosis is a tick-borne hemolytic disease caused by intraerythrocytic protozoan parasites of the genus Babesia. The present study describes epidemiological, clinical, and pathological features of cases of bovine babesiosis diagnosed over the last two decades in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in central-western Brazil. Examination of a total of 5298 bovine samples resulted in a definitive or presumptive diagnosis of babesiosis in 41 cases from 33 outbreaks.

Materials And Methods: The alkaloid-rich fraction (AF) - content juliprosopine as major alkaloid - was obtained from ethyl acetate extract after fractionation in Sephadex LH-20 chromatography column and its characterization were made by nuclear magnetic resonance analysis together with literature data comparison. The concentrations tested were 4.

The ovicidal activity of the crude hydroethanolic extract (CE), its partitioned hexane (HE) and aqueous extract (AE) and saponins fraction (SF), including betulinic acid (BA), a biogenetic compound from this plant found in HE, were investigated using the inhibition of egg hatch assay (EHA). Thereafter, the extracts and the SF were evaluated through the larval motility assay (LMA) and larval migration inhibition assay (LMIA).
