Background And Aims: Studies using smartphone apps in treatment for alcohol dependence are lacking. This study aimed to test the consumption-reducing effects of using two app-based alcohol interventions as complement to treatment as usual (TAU).
Design: Three-armed, parallel, randomised controlled trial.
Introduction: Back pain is common in idiopathic scoliosis. The aim of this study was to study known genetic variants associated with pain in individuals with idiopathic scoliosis.
Methods: We included 1442 individuals with juvenile or adolescent idiopathic scoliosis from Sweden and Denmark.
Individuals with chronic illnesses and those infected with SARS-CoV-2 often face stigma, shame, and psychological distress related to their conditions. Higher psychological flexibility and self-compassion are often associated with less stigma and shame. Examining and comparing these experiences between people with chronic illness and people who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 can provide valuable insights into the shared and unique challenges they encounter.

In this study, we examined the association between exposure to parental substance use disorder (SUD) during childhood, and adolescence and offspring psychiatric conditions in young adulthood.
Method: This was a register-based cohort study comprising 562,095 males and 531,130 females born between 1981 and 1990 in Sweden.
Back Ground: Knowledge concerning pulmonary function in adult patients with onset of idiopathic scoliosis before age 10 is sparse. A long-term follow-up (FU, mean 26 years, > 12 years after treatment) of pulmonary function (PF) in patients treated with brace or surgery due to idiopathic scoliosis with onset before the age of 10 was earlier performed. To evaluate whether a more severe reduction in pulmonary function leads to more rapid deterioration within a four-year period, this study was performed.

However, there is a lack of research on prescriptions of pharmacological treatment for AUD in those with comorbid conditions. This study aims to investigate the utilization of pharmacological treatment (acamprosate, disulfiram and naltrexone) in specialist care among patients with AUD and comorbid medical diagnoses.

Such findings are refuted by more recent research, yet have received significant media coverage. We aimed to explore: (1) how patients with cardiovascular diseases access health information about moderate drinking and cardiovascular health; (2) the perceived messages these sources convey, and (3) associations with own level of alcohol use.

Methods And Results: This was a qualitative study. Individual, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 clinical cardiology staff (doctors, nurses, and assistant nurses) of varying experience levels and from various clinical settings (high-dependency unit, ward, and outpatient clinic), in three regions of Sweden.
Ataxia telangiectasia (A-T), caused by biallelic variants in the gene, is a multisystemic and severe syndrome characterized by progressive ataxia, telangiectasia, hyperkinesia, immunodeficiency, increased risk of malignancy, and typically death before the age of 30. In this retrospective study we describe the phenotype of 14 pediatric and adult A-T patients evaluated at the Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden during the last 12 years. Most of the patients in this cohort were severely affected by ataxia and wheelchair use started at a median age of 9 years.

Here we tested an NMR approach which relies on the measurement of paramagnetic relaxation enhancements (PREs) arising from analogous cationic, anionic or neutral soluble nitroxide molecules, which distribute around the protein-ligand complex depending on near-surface electrostatic potentials. We applied this approach to two protein-ligand systems, interleukin-8 interacting with highly charged glycosaminoglycans and the SH2 domain of Grb2 interacting with less charged phospho-tyrosine tripeptides.

The Round offered 37 targets, including 14 homodimers, 3 homo-trimers, 13 heterodimers including 3 antibody-antigen complexes, and 7 large assemblies. On average ~70 CASP and CAPRI predictor groups, including more than 20 automatics servers, submitted models for each target.

Smartphone applications (apps) have potential to enhance treatment accessibility and effectiveness, however evidence is limited, especially studies focussing on user experiences. The aim was to describe patient perceptions on the usability and acceptability of self-monitoring apps provided as treatment complement for alcohol dependence.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFRecognition and binding of regulatory proteins to glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) from the extracellular matrix is a process of high biological importance. The interaction between negatively charged sulfate or carboxyl groups of the GAGs and clusters of basic amino acids on the protein is crucial in this binding process and it is believed that electrostatics represent the key factor for this interaction. However, given the rather undirected nature of electrostatics, it is important to achieve a clear understanding of its role in protein-GAG interactions and how specificity and selectivity in these systems can be achieved, when the classical key-lock binding motif is not applicable.

Furthermore, the intent is to investigate whether combining data from different registers increases the prevalence of these indications in the population due to the identification of different demographic groups in different registers.
Design: Cross-sectional study.
Objective: To examine the ability to perform basic and instrumental activities of daily life after very early supported discharge vs usual discharge and referral routine during the first year after mild stroke.
Design: A secondary analysis of data from the Gothenburg Very Early Supported Discharge randomized controlled trial. Patients: A total of 104 patients (56% men; mean (standard deviation) age 75 (11) years) who had experienced a first stroke classified as mild.

Heparin is an unbranched periodic polysaccharide composed of negatively charged monomers and involved in key biological processes, including anticoagulation, angiogenesis, and inflammation. Its structure and dynamics have been studied extensively using experimental as well as theoretical approaches. The conventional approach of computational chemistry applied to the analysis of biomolecules is all-atom molecular dynamics, which captures the interactions of individual atoms by solving Newton's equation of motion.

Methods: A national cohort study of 23 5295 males and 227 792 females born between 1981 and 1987.
Background: Prestroke physical activity (PA) has been linked to improved outcomes after intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH), but its association with ICH volume is unknown. We aimed to investigate associations of prestroke PA with location-specific haematoma volume and the clinical outcome of ICH.
Methods: All patients with primary ICH, admitted to three hospitals between 2014 and 2019, were included.
Objective: To investigate the associations between low education and risk of mental disorders, substance use disorders and self-harm in different age-groups.
Methods: All subjects in Stockholm born between 1931 and 1990 were linked to their own or their parent's highest education in 2000 and followed-up for these disorders in health care registers 2001-2016. Subjects were stratified into four age-groups: 10-18, 19-27, 28-50, and 51-70 years.
Background And Aim: Cannabis use disorder (CUD) is one of the main reasons for seeking substance treatment in the Nordic countries, but there are few studies on readmission to care. We aimed to characterize CUD readmission and estimate the magnitude of how socio-economic factors and psychiatric comorbidity influence the risk of CUD readmission.
Design, Setting And Participants: This was a nation-wide cohort study carried out between 2001 and 2016 in Sweden.
Background And Objectives: Prestroke physical activity may protect the brain from severe consequences of stroke. However, previous studies on this subject included mainly ischemic stroke cases, and the association between prestroke physical activity and outcomes after intracerebral hemorrhage is uncertain. Therefore, we sought to examine the associations between prestroke physical activity, stroke severity, and all-cause mortality after intracerebral hemorrhage in comparison with ischemic stroke.
