In less-resourced settings, 80% of people with spinal cord injuries die from pressure ulcer complications within two years. Appropriately constructed wheelchair cushions are effective in reducing incidence and severity of pressure ulcers. The Tuball is an inexpensive wheelchair cushion designed for users in less-resourced settings, which can be reproduced by local clinicians using locally sourced materials.

Background: The 42 days after delivery ("fourth trimester") are a high-risk period for birthing individuals and newborns, especially those who are racially and ethnically marginalized due to structural racism.

Objective: To fill a gap in the critical "fourth trimester," we developed 2 ruled-based chatbots-one for birthing individuals and one for newborn caregivers-that provided trusted information about postbirth warning signs and newborn care and connected patients with health care providers.

Methods: A total of 4370 individuals received the newborn chatbot outreach between September 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023, and 3497 individuals received the postpartum chatbot outreach between November 16, 2022, and December 31, 2023.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly challenging for the mental health of African American (AA) birthing people. The pandemic necessitated shifting mental health care to online interventions. Background: Despite the central importance of physical examination (PE) skills to patient evaluation, early trainees struggle with its correct application and interpretation. This struggle may reflect the instructional strategies of PE courses which have largely ignored the clinical reasoning necessary to accurately apply these skills. The "core + cluster" (C + C) is a recent approach to teaching PE to clerkship-level medical students that combines a basic 'core' exam with 'cluster' based on the student's hypothesis about their patient's clinical presentation.

Solar cells are essentially minority carrier devices, and it is therefore of central importance to understand the pertinent carrier transport processes. Here, we advanced a transport imaging technique to directly visualize the charge motion and collection in the direction of relevant carrier transport and to understand the cell operation and degradation in state-of-the-art cadmium telluride solar cells. We revealed complex carrier transport profiles in the inhomogeneous polycrystalline thin-film solar cell, with the influence of electric junction, interface, recombination, and material composition.

Single-use plastics impose an enormous environmental threat, but their recycling, especially of polyolefins, has been proven challenging. We report a direct method to selectively convert polyolefins to branched, liquid fuels including diesel, jet, and gasoline-range hydrocarbons, with high yield up to 85% over Pt/WO/ZrO and HY zeolite in hydrogen at temperatures as low as 225°C. The process proceeds via tandem catalysis with initial activation of the polymer primarily over Pt, with subsequent cracking over the acid sites of WO/ZrO and HY zeolite, isomerization over WO/ZrO sites, and hydrogenation of olefin intermediates over Pt.

In this direct replication of Mueller and Oppenheimer's (2014) Study 1, participants watched a lecture while taking notes with a laptop ( = 74) or longhand ( = 68). After a brief distraction and without the opportunity to study, they took a quiz. As in the original study, laptop participants took notes containing more words spoken verbatim by the lecturer and more words overall than did longhand participants.

The Caenorhabditis elegans vitellogenin genes are transcribed in the intestine of adult hermaphrodites but not of males. A 44-bp region from the vit-2 gene promoter is able largely to reconstitute this tissue-, stage- and sex-specific-expression. This "enhancer" contains a binding site for the DM-domain factor MAB-3, the male-specific repressor of vitellogenesis, as well as an activator site that we show is the direct target of the intestinal GATA factor ELT-2.
