The COVID-19 pandemic threatens indigenous peoples living in suburban areas of large Brazilian cities and has thus far intensified their pre-existing socio-economic inequalities. Although many copper-based antimicrobial compounds have been developed to control pathogenic bacteria and fungi in plants and applied for crop protection, there is evidence that several plant pathogens have developed resistance to copper-based antimicrobial compounds, including some Xanthomonas species. Propolis is a natural product with many demonstrated biological activities and propolis extract has been used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. Different works have showed the variations in the chemical composition, and consequently, on the biological activity of the propolis that are associated with its type and geographic origin.
