Background: The effect of pregnancy on individuals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is not well investigated.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of pregnancy on all-cause mortality and clinical outcomes among individuals with HCM.

Methods: Using the TriNetX research network, we identified individuals within reproductive age (≥18-45 years) with a diagnosis of HCM between 2012 and 2022 (n = 10,936).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between statins, testosterone replacement therapy (TTh), and cardiovascular disease (CVD) among men, comparing those with hormone-related cancers (HRCa) to cancer-free individuals.
  • A large sample of 44,330 men was analyzed, revealing that both statins and TTh were independently linked to a lower incidence of CVD, especially when used together, although TTh alone didn't show the same effect for HRCa survivors.
  • The findings suggest that pre-diagnostic use of statins and TTh reduces the risk of CVD, warranting further investigation into specific cardiovascular outcomes for those with a history of hormone-related cancers.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the association of testosterone replacement therapy (TTh) with risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and CVD-specific outcomes, in cisgender women and transgender population, and to determine whether this association varies by menopausal status.

Methods: In 25 796 cisgender women and 1580 transgender people (≥30 years old) who were enrolled in the Optum's deidentified Clinformatics Data Mart Database (2007-2021), we identified 6288 pre- and postmenopausal cisgender women and 262 transgender people diagnosed with incident composite of CVD (coronary artery disease [CAD], congestive heart failure, stroke, and myocardial infarction). Prediagnostic prescription of TTh was ascertained for this analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Aspirin is a key medication for treating ischemic heart disease and preventing recurrence but poses challenges for patients who are intolerant to it.
  • The literature review covers how aspirin works, why some patients develop intolerance, and its vital role in managing cardiovascular issues.
  • A multidisciplinary team approach involving internists, allergists/immunologists, and cardiologists is crucial for effectively managing patients with aspirin intolerance in both acute and stable coronary conditions.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients cause substantial morbidity and mortality. CMV cell-mediated immunity (CMV-CMI) can be determined by levels of interferon gamma (IFN-γ) production using an enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) CMV assay (T-SPOT.CMV assay).

Background: The emergence of resistance to available antiviral drugs may cause higher Cytomegalovirus (CMV)-associated morbidity and mortality in hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients. Few novel antiviral drugs are being developed with potential effect against refractory or resistant CMV infections. Brincidofovir, an oral nucleotide analog and prodrug of cidofovir, has shown in vitro activity against CMV.

Background: Pericardial effusion (PE) is common in cancer patients, but the optimal therapeutic approach is not well defined. Percutaneous pericardiocentesis is less invasive than surgery, but its long-term effectiveness and safety have not been well documented.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to evaluate outcomes of cancer patients undergoing percutaneous pericardiocentesis for PE and assess the procedure's safety in patients with thrombocytopenia.
