Purpose: Employment participation offers benefits including income, sense of accomplishment, social engagement, and meaningful contribution to society. Rates of competitive employment of youth with disabilities are amongst the lowest in society, despite having capacity and motivation to participate in the workplace. The marginalization of young workers with disability presents a lost opportunity for youth, potential employers, and social care systems.

- The study aimed to create and evaluate the FIAAC-E scale, a tool for educators to measure communicative participation in students using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
- It consisted of three phases: assessing content validity with experts, generating and refining items through educator feedback, and ultimately testing the reliability and validity of the shortened scale with a larger group of educators.
- Results showed that the FIAAC-E scale has reliable internal consistency and supports its use as a valuable assessment tool for understanding AAC effectiveness in fostering communication in educational settings.
