Data Sources: Citations from 1967 to 2008 were downloaded from the PubMed database. Core of the search strategy was the key word cardiovascular diseases in the Medical Subject Headings major field with the subheading rehabilitation.
Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate scientific production in the field of cancer rehabilitation comparing publication trends and impact factor (IF) among countries.
Methods: The PubMed database was searched. Publications numbers and IF were evaluated both as absolute values and after standardization by population and gross domestic product (GDP).
Objective: Results of recent studies suggest a link between neuronal excitatory or inhibitory unbalance and depression. To investigate this relation, we studied the rest activity and the cortical excitability of the cerebral areas dedicated to hand control in 12 patients with depression.
Methods: Brain activity was recorded from the Rolandic region in both hemispheres of 12 depression patients and 11 control subjects by means of magnetoencephalography.
Prolonged environmental noise exposure can induce pathogenic effects on various physical and psychosocial responses. The first aim of this study was to investigate whether long-term occupational noise exposure could affect neurophysiological, neuropsychological and emotional statuses, with particular respect to attention and working memory. The second aim was to evaluate the effects on the tactile P300 of a specific stressor (background traffic noise) vs a non-specific stress inductor (Stroop test).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPrevious electroencephalographic and magnetoencephalographic (MEG) studies demonstrate that the activity in the delta band can increase not only in the perilesional area, but also in the contralesional hemisphere in patients affected by a monolateral stroke. The increase of delta activity in the unaffected hemisphere (UH) in the acute phase after an unilateral stroke seems to add prognostic information about clinical recovery. Delta activity in perirolandic regions was investigated via MEG in a group of 27 patients affected by stroke in the territory of middle cerebral artery in the first week following the symptom onset.
