Cleft lip and palate (CLP) represent the most frequently reported congenital anomaly affecting the craniofacial region. The aim of this study was to assess the output (in number of procedures) of the Brazilian hospitals accredited for the treatment of CLP patients, examine the referral flow of patients requiring this type of care, and ascertain the adequacy of the corresponding infrastructure of these healthcare facilities. Methodologically, the study used an observational, cross-sectional, and ecological design.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study was conducted with 205 municipal oral health coordinators from the state. Data collection was carried out through a validated questionnaire to analyze the state of development of the oral health care network.
The implementation of oral healthcare networks is a recent process that requires evaluation. The current study aimed to describe the stages in the adaptation of the oral healthcare version of an instrument to evaluate the stage of development in the healthcare network under the Unified National Health System (SUS). The original instrument, called Instrument for the Diagnosis of Developmental Stages in the Healthcare Network, was developed by Mendes (2011).
