This study presents a novel approach for creating an effective air filtration medium using electrospun nanofibers comprised of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), and impregnated with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The membrane production was optimized using an experimental design methodology, resulting in a hydrophobic membrane that exhibits excellent dispersion of MWCNTs. Scanning electron microscopy images illustrate the nanofibers' morphology, featuring an average diameter of approximately 240 nm, minimal bead formation, and optimal MWCNT dispersion.

Purpose: Unresectable pediatric low-grade gliomas (LGG) usually need adjuvant therapy, and carboplatin hypersensitivity reaction (HR) commonly leads to premature treatment cessation of a standard chemotherapy regimen. In the molecular era, advances in understanding tumor genetic characteristics allowed the development of targeted therapies for this group of tumors; however, cost-effectiveness assessment of treatments, especially in low-income countries, is crucial. The aim is to describe the results of carboplatin desensitization protocol in a single center in a middle-income country.

Background: The present study assessed the quality of images and the presence of marginal gaps on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of teeth restored with all-ceramic and metal-ceramic crowns and compared the gap sizes observed on CBCT images with those obtained on micro-CT images.

Methods: Thirty teeth restored with metal-ceramic and all-ceramic crowns, properly adapted and with gaps of 0.30 and 0.

The aim of this study was to verify the association between anxiety, depression, and obesity in metabolic syndrome (MetS) patients. It is a retrospective study with 142 volunteers with MetS of both genders and age ≥20 years. Every subject responded to the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS).

The development of new materials with specific functionalities for certain applications has been increasing with the advent of nanotechnology. A technique widely used for this purpose is electrospinning, because control of several parameters involved in the process can yield nanoscale fibers. In addition to the production of innovative and small-scale materials, through structural, chemical, physical, and biological modifications in the fibers produced in electrospinning, it is possible to obtain specific properties for a given application.

Background: Gastrointestinal and sensory manifestations (GSMs) of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may affect food intake, resulting in malnutrition and poor outcomes. We characterized the impact of GSMs and oral nutrition supplementation on energy-protein intake (EPI) and hospital discharge in adult patients with COVID-19.

Methods: Patients from two hospitals were enrolled (n = 357).

Due to the recent coronavirus-2019 pandemic, several studies have emerged looking for new materials, especially with biocidal characteristics. Thus, the present research investigates the antibacterial properties of biodegradable cellulose acetate (CA) / cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB) electrospun nanofibers, their aerosol filtration, and the possible use as a filter media of surgical face masks. Then, samples of these nanofibers were produced over a nonwoven substrate, using different volumes of polymeric solution during the electrospinning process.

The chemical composition of particulate material plays an important role in the atmosphere, providing cloud and ice nuclei for storm development. This study aims to evaluate and infer the sources of ions, metals, and metalloids in the fine atmospheric particulate matter (PM) from triple border Paraná, Santa Catarina (Brazil), and northeastern Argentina, which is among those with the highest hail incidence in the world. Among the ions, the concentrations presented the following sequence in decreasing order: [Formula: see text]> K> [Formula: see text]> [Formula: see text]> Ca> Cl> Na> Mg.

The increase of the industrialization process brought the growth of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere. At the same time, the demand for advances in aerosol filtration is evolving towards more sustainable technologies. Electrospinning is gaining notoriety, once it enables to produce polymeric nanofibers with different additives and also the obtaining of small pore sizes and fiber diameters; desirable features for air filtration materials.

Background: Extreme ambient temperatures and air quality have been directly associated with various human diseases from several studies around the world. However, few analyses involving the association of these environmental circumstances with mental and behavioral disorders (MBD) have been carried out, especially in developing countries such as Brazil.

Methods: A time series study was carried out to explore the associations between daily air pollutants (SO, NO, O, and PM) concentrations and meteorological variables (temperature and relative humidity) on hospital admissions for mental and behavioral disorders for Curitiba, Brazil.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to use cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images to determine the prevalence of calcifications in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and to evaluate any associations between the presence of such calcifications and degenerative bone alterations of the TMJ, sex, or age.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study, 1,058 CBCT exams were analyzed, and data regarding the presence and quantity of calcifications, the affected side, any degenerative alterations of the condyle, sex, and age were collected. To evaluate associations between the presence of calcifications and sex or age, the Fisher exact test or the Spearman correlation coefficient, respectively, was used.

Different brain areas seem to be involved in the cardiovascular responses to stress. The medial amygdala (MeA) has been shown to participate in cardiovascular control, and acute stress activates the MeA to a greater extent than any of the other amygdaloid structures. It has been demonstrated that the brain histaminergic system may be involved in behavioral, autonomic and neuroendocrine responses to stressful situations.

Serra Gaucha is described as the most important wine region of Brazil. Regarding cultivars widespread in the Serra Gaucha, about 90 % of the area is occupied by vines of Vitis labrusca that is the most important specie used in grape juice production. The objective of this study was to investigate the antioxidant and neuroprotective effect of chronic intake of purple grape juice (organic and conventional) from Bordo variety (V.

The study investigated, through a literature review, how the research community has addressed the difficulties experiences by the teams in front of new prescriptions for the treatment of alcohol and drug users in Centers of Psyco-social Attention and discusses the relevance of the conceptual and methodological references of Ergonomics for understand and transform work situations. Such studies tend to do an analysis that does not account for variability present in both the workers and work organization and prioritize the analysis of final results of the, disqualifying local inventions due to tasks imposed by policy guidelines. It is estimated that the Ergonomics, considering the diversity of training, learning and experience, contributes to the implementation of media to promote the continued development of competences that can meet the demands of production and expands knowledge about the problems experienced and the possibilities of overcoming them.

The aim of this research was to analyze and compare 17 honey samples, 11 organic and six non-organic Apis mellifera honey. The samples were analyzed concerning moisture, hydroxymethylfurfural, diastase index, water activity, color, total sugar, reducing sugar, sucrose, ash, viscosity, electrical conductivity, pH, acidity, and formol index. With the exception of acidity, reducing sugar and diastase index, the averages of other parameters were different between the two groups.

Pulse pressure (DeltaPp) and systolic pressure (DeltaPs) variations have been recommended as predictors of fluid responsiveness in critically ill patients. We hypothesized that changes in DeltaPp and DeltaPs parallel alterations in stroke volume (SV) and cardiac output (CO) during hemorrhage, shock, and resuscitation. In anesthetized and mechanically ventilated mongrel dogs, a graded hemorrhage (20 mL/min) was induced to a target mean arterial pressure (MAP) of 40 mm Hg, which was maintained for additional 30 min.
