Background: Surgery in gastric cancer (GC) aims to achieve resection of the primary tumor and its lymphatic drain, with a minimal adverse effect on morbidity and mortality, and the best possible quality of life.

Methods: From June 1993 to May 2008, 113 patients with a preoperative diagnosis of the GC were considered for laparoscopic gastrectomy at our institution. There was a predominance of males and mean age was 60 years.

Objective: To describe the technique of laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) with high clearance rates, low morbidity, and mortality rates.

Summary Background Data: LCBDE is well accepted by patients because treatment is obtained during the same anesthesia. If one stage therapy for gallstones and common bile duct stones provides success rates equivalent to those of the sequential approach, with lower costs, this should be considered the standard of care.

Background: The laparoscopic transhiatal esophagectomy for benign or malignant disease is a complex operation associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. In the last decade this procedure gained popularity and acceptance for treatment of the esophagus cancer and other benign diseases.
