Fatal neonatal persistent pulmonary hypertension caused by vegetations of infective endocarditis - case report and review of the literature.

Neonatal infective endocarditis is a rare condition and usually pertains to a specific class of immunologically depressed preterm infants, with a long history of invasive procedures in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We report the case of an aggressive and fatal neonatal infective endocarditis in a full-term infant, who developed massive endocardial vegetations on the tricuspid valve, leading to persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, unresponsive to nitric oxide ventilation. Post-mortem cardiac cultures were positive with , an unusual germ for an early-onset infection, which was absent in blood cultures.

Ovarian strumal carcinoid - case report.

Strumal carcinoid represents a rare form of ovarian teratoma, consisting of both thyroid tissue and carcinoid structures. The carcinoid component is a well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor with excellent prognosis. Strumal carcinoid tumors are commonly found in peri-menopausal women who are not usually interested in preserving their fertility and who are thus open to radical surgical treatment.

Early intrauterine development of mixed giant intracranial teratoma in newborn: a case report.

Unlabelled: Teratoma is one of the most frequent fetal intracranial tumors, but it usually grows very quickly and the fetus is generally a stillborn. Rare cases have slow development or are located in areas that afford immediate surgery after birth with variable chances of survival. Even more rare cases survive days or weeks, but with no chance of surgical treatment and with prolonged palliative care.

[Prune-belly syndrome prenatal diagnosis].

We present the ultrasonographic diagnosis at the 19th gestational week in a case of Prune-belly syndrome which consists in abdominal wall distension with deficiency of the abdominal wall musculature, urinary tract abnormalities (specially mega bladder), and in males, cryptorchidism. The pathologic examination found the patient devoid of striated muscles anterior abdominal wall, hypertrophy of the urinary bladder, and urethral atresia. The Prune-belly is accessible to antenatal diagnosis and the variable prognosis does not always justify abortion.

[Malignant mixed mesodermal tumor: histo- and cytopathologic correlations].

To correlate the cytopathological and the histopathological findings in uterine mixed mesodermal malignant tumor (MMMT) we have examined the cervical smear, endometrial curettage and hysterectomy specimen of a patient diagnosed with uterine tumor. The smear was stained by Papanicolaou staining and the tissue processed by routine technique and stained H&E. The original cytological diagnosis was adenosquamous carcinoma.
