BIOTA AFRICA is an interdisciplinary project aimed at creating a standardized biodiversity monitoring network across Africa to address the lack of adequate monitoring designs.
The project involves the establishment of BIOTA Biodiversity Observatories that facilitate long-term biodiversity monitoring, data comparability across ecosystems, and integration of multiple scientific disciplines.
Each observatory covers a 1 km² area divided into 100 1-ha plots, with flexible sampling methods tailored to various organism groups, allowing for effective data collection and analysis across different climatic and landscape gradients.
