Here we report the results of an experimental and theoretical study of the gas-phase reactions between O(D) and HO and O(D) and DO at room temperature and below. On the experimental side, the kinetics of these reactions have been investigated over the 50-127 K range using a continuous flow Laval nozzle apparatus, coupled with pulsed laser photolysis and pulsed laser induced fluorescence for the production and detection of O(D) atoms respectively. Experiments were also performed at 296 K in the absence of a Laval nozzle.

The sesquiterpene β-caryophyllene (BCP) is a structurally singular cannabinoid and a selective agonist of the CB2 receptor, which in addition to being expressed in the CNS, is intrinsically expressed within the immune system and lacks psychoactivity. Nanoencapsulation of BCP can allow its controlled release into the CNS and intranasal administration. Thus, a protocol for nanoencapsulation of BCP was developed and optimized in order to adjust the desired bioactive content and physicochemical parameters.

This work presents a new full dimensional potential energy surface for the ground singlet state of hydrogen peroxide, HO. This potential is based on a 3 × 3 matrix to accurately reproduce all the different dissociation channels in accordance with the Wigner-Witmer rules, namely, O(D) + HO(XA), OH(XΠ) + OH(XΠ), O(aΔ) + H(XΣ) e H(S) + HO(XA''). It has been obtained by fitting more than 38 thousand ab initio energies computed using the aug-cc-pVTZ and aug-cc-pVQZ basis sets and extrapolated to the basis set limit.

Mechanisms of thermal isomerization of allyl tetrazolyl ethers derived from the carbocyclic allylic alcohols cyclohex-2-enol and 3-methylcyclohex-2-enol and from the natural terpene alcohol nerol were investigated. In the process of the syntheses of the three 1-aryl-5-allyloxytetrazoles, their rapid isomerization to the corresponding 1-aryl-4-allyltetrazol-5-ones occurred. The experiments showed that the imidates rearrange exclusively through a [3,3']-sigmatropic migration of the allylic system from O to N, with inversion.

Patients affected by X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) present a progressive brain and peripheral demyelination and adrenal cortex insufficiency, associated with accumulation of the very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) hexacosanoic acid (C26:0) and tetracosanoic acid (C24:0) in different tissues and biological fluids. X-ALD is characterized by heterogeneous clinical phenotypes. Seven clinical variants have been described for this genetic disorder, being the childhood cerebral form (CCER), adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN) and asymptomatic the most common clinical forms.

X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a peroxisomal disease biochemically characterized by the accumulation of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA), particularly hexacosanoic (C26:0) and tetracosanoic acids (C24:0) in different tissues and in biological fluids and clinically characterized by central and peripheral demyelination and adrenal insufficiency. A considerable number of heterozygotes (HTZ) for X-ALD develop neurological symptoms like spinal cord involvement resembling milder forms of adrenomyeloneuropathy. However, the mechanisms of brain damage in hemizygotes and heterozygotes X-ALD individuals are poorly understood.
