Background: The use of ex vivo assays associated with biomaterials may allow the short-term visualization of a specific cell type response inserted in a local microenvironment. Blood is the first component to come into contact with biomaterials, providing blood clot formation, being substantial in new tissue formation. Thus, this research investigated the physiological blood clot (PhC) patterns formed in 3D scaffolds (SCAs), based on chitosan and 20% beta-tricalcium phosphate and its effect on osteogenesis.

Objective: The study delved into the epigenetic factors associated with periodontal disease in two lineages of mice, namely C57bl/6 and Balb/c. Its primary objective was to elucidate alterations in the methylome of mice with distinct genetic backgrounds following systemic microbial challenge, employing high-throughput DNA methylation analysis as the investigative tool.

Methods: ()was orally administered to induce periodontitis in both Balb/c and C57bl/6 lineage.

Background: Scaffold (SCA) functionalization with aptamers (APT) provides adsorption of specific bioactive molecules on biomaterial surfaces. The aim of this study was to observe if SCA enriched with anti-fibronectin APT can favor coagulum (PhC) and osteoblasts (OSB) differentiation.

Methods: 20 μg of APT was functionalized on SCA by simple adsorption.

Objectives: Periodontal disease is understood to be a result of dysbiotic interactions between the host and the biofilm, causing a unique reaction for each individual, which in turn characterizes their susceptibility. The objective of this study was to chronologically evaluate periodontal tissue destruction induced by systemic bacterial challenge in known susceptible (BALB/c) and resistant (C57BL/6) mouse lineages.

Material And Methods: Animals, 6-8 weeks old, were allocated into three experimental groups: Negative control (C), Gavage with sterile carboxymethyl cellulose 2%-without bacteria (Sham), and Gavage with carboxymethyl cellulose 2% + Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg-W83).

Background/aim: Tumor interstitial fluid (TIF), a component of the tumor microenvironment, is a valuable source of molecules and substances that help in diagnosis and prognosis of solid tumors. There is still no consensus on the optimal method for collecting TIF. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a new method of collecting TIF in invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) samples for cytokine interleukin 1β (IL1β) quantification.

The aim of this review was to update the evidence of new approaches to non-surgical therapy (NSPT) in the treatment of periodontitis. Preclinical and clinical studies addressing the benefits of adjunctive antimicrobial photodynamic therapy, probiotics, prebiotics/synbiotics, statins, pro-resolving mediators, omega-6 and -3, ozone, and epigenetic therapy were scrutinized and discussed. Currently, the outcomes of these nine new approaches, when compared with subgingival debridement alone, did not demonstrate a significant added clinical benefit.

Objective: This study evaluated the effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) on the cytokine profile in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in patients with breast cancer and periodontitis.

Methods: Forty patients were allocated into the periodontitis group (P) (n = 20) and breast cancer with periodontitis group (BC/P) (n = 20). Two days before the removal of infectious foci from the oral cavity and NSPT, as well as periodontal reevaluations, C-reactive protein, neutrophils (10μL), and platelets (10μL), were evaluated.

DNA methylation controls several inflammatory genes affecting bone homeostasis. Hitherto, inhibition of DNA methylation in vivo in the context of periodontitis and osteoclastogenesis has not been attempted. Ligature-induced periodontitis in C57BL/6J mice was induced by placing ligature for five days with Decitabine (5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine) (1 mg/kg/day) or vehicle treatment.

The use of alloplastic materials in periodontal regenerative therapies is limited by their incapacity to establish a dynamic dialog with the surrounding milieu. The aim of the present study was to control biomaterial surface bioactivity by introducing aptamers to induce the selective adsorption of fibronectin from blood, thus promoting platelets activation in vitro and bone regeneration in vivo. A hyaluronic acid/polyethyleneglycole-based hydrogel was enriched with aptamers selected for recognizing and binding fibronectin.

Clinical research needs to formulate a question, which must be answered by obeying ethical precepts with well-defined inclusion/exclusion criteria and approval of the study on platforms of ethical appreciation and clinical trial records. In comparing the results or clinically relevant outcomes should be prioritized in the study of techniques, products, inputs, drugs and therapies. However, it is not always possible to use long study drawings, with many participants, and with many costs, then look for study designs with surrogate outcomes, usually a shorter path, with less sample size and considerably lower costs to the research, with shorter intervention time.

This study evaluated the response of a nano-hydroxyapatite coating implant through gene expression analysis (runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), alkaline phosphatase (Alp), osteopontin (Opn), osteocalcin (Oc), receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (Rank), receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (Rank-L), and osteoprotegerin (Opg)). Three-dimensional evaluation (percent bone volume (BV/TV); percent intersection surface (BIC); bone surface/volume ratio (BS/BV); and total porosity (To.Po)) were also analyzed.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the use of a porcine-derived acellular dermal matrix (MD) in root coverage procedures combined with extended coronally positioned flap (eCAF), in comparison to the subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) associated with the eCAF.

Material And Methods: Eighteen adult patients presenting bilateral type 1 gingival recession were randomly assigned to SCTG or MD groups. Clinical and patient-based outcomes were recorded at 3 and 6 months after the surgical procedure.

Objective: To monitor early periodontal disease progression and to investigate clinical and molecular profile of inflamed sites by means of crevicular fluid and gingival biopsy analysis.

Methodology: Eighty-one samples of twenty-seven periodontitis subjects and periodontally healthy individuals were collected for the study. Measurements of clinical parameters were recorded at day -15, baseline and 2 months after basic periodontal treatment aiming at monitoring early variations ofthe clinical attachment level.

Background/objective: The beneficial effects of sub-antimicrobial dose doxycycline (SDD) associated with nonsurgical periodontal therapy are well documented. Recently, the effects of SDD on metalloproteinases have been investigated in the treatment of hypertension. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of SDD on ligature-induced periodontitis in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).

We have compiled, in this Periodontology 2000 review, all Latin American literature on experimental and clinical studies of periodontal plastic procedures. The body of literature on this subject has led to a discussion of the features and treatment outcomes of root-coverage procedures. Over time, knowledge on periodontal plastic procedures has become less empirical and more supportive of the clinical management of recession-type defects.
