Article Synopsis
  • - Chagas Disease, caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite, affects around seven million people globally and has limited treatment options.
  • - A study tested essential oils from 18 Myrtaceae plant species for their effectiveness against T. cruzi and identified eight oils with strong anti-parasitic properties (IC <10 μg/mL, SI >10).
  • - Key compounds such as (E)-caryophyllene and α-humulene were found to significantly contribute to the oils' ability to combat the parasite, highlighting the potential of these essential oils as sources of bioactive compounds.
