Background: We aimed to identify the central lifestyle, the most impactful among lifestyle factor clusters; the central health outcome, the most impactful among health outcome clusters; and the bridge lifestyle, the most strongly connected to health outcome clusters, across 29 countries to optimise resource allocation for local holistic health improvements.

Methods: From July 2020 to August 2021, we surveyed 16 461 adults across 29 countries who self-reported changes in 18 lifestyle factors and 13 health outcomes due to the pandemic. Three networks were generated by network analysis for each country: lifestyle, health outcome, and bridge networks.

This study aims to develop and validate the Post-COVID Symptom Scale for Children/Youth (PCSS-C/Y), which is a comprehensive tool for measuring the symptom burden of post-COVID-19 conditions-persistent symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection, commonly known as Long COVID-and its impact on health-related quality of life among children and adolescents. Parents of children and adolescents, adolescents, and young adults with and without a history of COVID-19 were invited to fill in a questionnaire from October 2022 to June 2023. There were 386 valid parent proxy-reported responses, 433 valid adolescent self-reported responses, and 324 valid young adult self-reported responses included in the final analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Early identification of high-risk children and adolescents for weight issues is essential for preventive strategies, and this study focuses on using machine learning techniques to pinpoint key predictors.
  • The research analyzed various demographic, physical, and psychological factors to model weight status over one, three, and five-year periods, employing four feature selection methods to determine the most impactful predictors.
  • With a large dataset of over 3.8 million student visits, the study successfully identified a minimal set of influential features, achieving high prediction accuracies (up to 0.82) and demonstrating that factors like weight, height, sex, self-esteem, and age are consistently significant predictors of weight problems.

  • Nonrestorative sleep (NRS) is linked to negative outcomes and this study examines its factors among Chinese adolescents, particularly in relation to coffee and tea consumption.
  • The study involved 481 adolescents in Nanjing, analyzing the impact of factors like family income, sleep duration, physical symptoms, and mental health on NRS using linear regression methods.
  • Results show that higher family income, longer sleep, and moderate activity reduce NRS, while factors like coffee/tea consumption and emotional issues exacerbate it; coffee/tea also modifies the relationship between NRS and physical/mental health.

Aim: To develop 10-year cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk prediction models in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) managed in primary care using machine learning (ML) methods.

Methods: In this 10-year population-based retrospective cohort study, 141 516 Chinese T2DM patients aged 18 years or above, without history of CVD or end-stage renal disease and managed in public primary care clinics in 2008, were included and followed up until December 2017. Two-thirds of the patients were randomly selected to develop sex-specific CVD risk prediction models.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the measurement properties of the Chinese version of the Brief Inventory of Perceived Stress (BIPS-C) and find effective ways to measure perceived stress.
  • A sample of 1356 community residents was divided into two groups: one for exploratory analysis to identify underlying constructs and the other to confirm those constructs through analysis.
  • Results indicated that the best-fitting model for the BIPS-C was a bifactor model, indicating one general factor of perceived stress with specific influences, which showed strong internal consistency and reliability.

Article Synopsis
  • A study surveyed over 16,500 adults from 30 countries to assess their fears related to various diseases and events, focusing on the implications for public health strategies.
  • The most significant fear reported was the loss of family members, followed by fears of cancer and stroke, while factors such as losing a mobile phone and social isolation ranked as less feared.
  • The findings suggest that understanding these fears can enhance public health messaging and support initiatives aimed at addressing bereavement, promoting preventive services for diseases, and managing fears during health emergencies.

  • The study investigates factors influencing people's willingness to continue digital work arrangements that emerged during the pandemic, particularly among residents of Hong Kong aged 18 and older.
  • Data was gathered through web-based surveys from over 1,000 participants, revealing that about 39% were willing to maintain digital work, with employment status and longer screen time being positive influences.
  • Negative influences included older age, extroversion, and higher eHealth literacy, indicating that certain demographics are less inclined to sustain remote work practices.

Background: Adolescent weight problems have become a growing public health concern, making early prediction of non-normal weight status crucial for effective prevention. However, few temporal prediction tools for adolescent four weight status have been developed. This study aimed to predict the short- and long-term weight status of Hong Kong adolescents and assess the importance of predictors.

Context: Dyspnea, a prevalent and debilitating symptom in patients with advanced lung cancer, negatively affects symptom burden and prognosis. Physical activity has emerged as a promising non-pharmacological intervention for managing dyspnea.

Objectives: This study compared the effectiveness of two widely-recognized physical activity modalities, namely Tai Chi (TC) and aerobic exercise (AE) for treating dyspnea in patients with advanced lung cancer.

Purpose: Cancer-related cognitive impairment is prevalent in metastatic lung cancer survivors. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of aerobic exercise and Tai Chi on perceived cognitive function and the mediating role of psychoneurological symptoms with perceived cognitive impairment.

Methods: In a subgroup of a parent randomized clinical trial, participants who reported cognitive impairment underwent a 16-week aerobic exercise (n = 49), Tai Chi (n = 48), and control (n = 54) groups.

Background: The incidence of sexually transmitted infections has been increasing throughout the world. Additionally, substantial changes in emerging adults' attitudes toward sex and the popularization of premarital sex could further affect the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. With the high acceptability and effectiveness of instant messaging (IM) interventions for health promotion, there is potential for such interventions to improve condom use knowledge and promote safer sex practice.

This study addresses the gap in understanding the varied effectiveness of group cognitive behavioral therapy (gCBT) delivered by different professionals. This study aims to address this gap by conducting a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluate gCBT and compare it to inactive controls in adults with a clinical diagnosis of depression. A total of 33 RCTs were included for analysis.

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak exacerbated workplace violence and turnover intention among nurses, particularly affecting greater levels of psychological distress. This study aimed to examine psychological distress as a mediator of the relationship between workplace violence and turnover intention among clinical nurses, and to investigate whether caring for patients with COVID-19 moderates this relationship through the lens of the affective events theory. We conducted an online survey of 325 Korean registered nurses (mean age = 30.
