Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze medication switching patterns among Colombian MS patients, focusing on why they change their disease-modifying therapies (DMT) and how often these switches occur.
  • - Out of 701 patients, 39.5% continued their initial DMT, while the rest experienced multiple changes, with a total of 720 modifications reflecting an incidence rate of 1.09 changes yearly per patient.
  • - The study found that the primary reasons for switching DMT included disease activity, with 56.7% of changes due to relapses and 18% relating to MRI evidence of activity.

After a stroke, several mechanisms of neural plasticity can be activated, which may lead to significant recovery. Rehabilitation therapies aim to restore surviving tissue over time and reorganize neural connections. With more patients surviving stroke with varying degrees of neurological impairment, new technologies have emerged as a promising option for better functional outcomes.

A new outbreak of monkeypox has been reported worldwide with CNS complications like encephalitis or myelitis being extremely rare. We present a case of a 30-year-old man with PCR-confirmed diagnosis of monkeypox who developed rapid neurological deterioration with extensive inflammatory involvement of the brain and spinal cord on MRI. Because of the clinical and radiological resemblance to acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), it was decided to indicate treatment with high-dose corticosteroids for 5 days (without concomitant antiviral management due to lack of availability in our country).

Introduction: The SARS-Cov-2 infection has multiple neurologic manifestations including encephalitis in multiple cases reported, however the psychosis as principal manifestation of this condition is infrequently.

Case Report: We report the case of a 48-year-old woman with a confirmed diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 who developed paranoid and self-referential ideas with behavioural alteration and multiple findings on mental examination. Encephalitis associated with Covid-19 was suspected due to the neurological clinical presentation (persistent despite resolve hypoxaemia and systemic symptoms) and brain magnetic resonance image (MRI) that showed asymmetric hippocampal hyperintensities, although cerebrospinal fluid and electroencephalogram (EEG) were normal.

Introduction: Patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) account for most of the burden of epilepsy, and they have poor prognosis in seizure control, higher morbidity, and mortality.

Objectives: The objective of the study was to develop a prognostic model of drug resistance in adult patients with generalized epilepsy from Colombia.

Methods: In this case-control study of patients with generalized epilepsy, patients were separated into two groups: one group with DRE (cases) according to the new International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) definition after a complete evaluation performed by an epileptologist and the other group without DRE (control).
