Intraoperative FoCUS: Training Practices and Views on Feasibility.

Objectives: To investigate whether resident anesthesiologists perceive intraoperative focused cardiac ultrasonography (FoCUS) as feasible, the self-reported confidence of residents performing intraoperative FoCUS, and United States graduate medical education resident ultrasound training practices.

Design: A cross-sectional survey.

Setting: The United States Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-listed anesthesiology programs over a 3-month period between June 2022 to September 2022.

Evidence of a developmental origin for β-cell heterogeneity using a dual lineage-tracing technology.

The Cre/loxP system has been used extensively in mouse models with a limitation of one lineage at a time. Differences in function and other properties among populations of adult β-cells is termed β-cell heterogeneity, which was recently associated with diabetic phenotypes. Nevertheless, the presence of a developmentally derived β-cell heterogeneity is unclear.

Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome after Laparoscopic Appendectomy in a Young Adult.

Severe acute respiratory distress syndrome after laparoscopic appendectomy for acute appendicitis in a young adult is an uncommon complication. We describe the case of a 25-year-old male who developed severe acute respiratory distress syndrome after an uneventful laparoscopic appendectomy for a perforated appendix, requiring mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit.
