Here we describe a copper-catalysed approach for skeletal expansion of oxygen heterocycles by reaction with a difluorocarbene species generated in situ to induce carbon atom insertion.

Introduction: Limited data exist regarding treatment patterns and symptom burden of patients with anemia of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the Middle East, South Africa, and Türkiye.

Methods: This real-world study explored clinical characteristics, symptom burden, and treatment patterns of patients with anemia of CKD living in the Middle East, South Africa, and Türkiye. Physician and patient perceptions of treatment were captured via cross-sectional surveys; patients' clinical characteristics were recorded by retrospective review of medical records.

Background/objectives: Early-onset sepsis in neonates is a potentially catastrophic condition that demands prompt management. However, laboratory diagnosis via cerebral spinal fluid and blood tests is often inconclusive, so diagnosis on the basis of clinical symptoms and risk factors is frequently required, and the majority of neonates treated with antibiotics for presumed early-onset sepsis (PEOS) do not have culture-proven sepsis. The management of such PEOS is mainly achieved via antibiotic therapy, which itself has adverse effects, creating a dilemma for clinicians in optimising healthcare.

3D Printed Organisms Enabled by Aspiration-Assisted Adaptive Strategies.

Devising an approach to deterministically position organisms can impact various fields such as bioimaging, cybernetics, cryopreservation, and organism-integrated devices. This requires continuously assessing the locations of randomly distributed organisms to collect and transfer them to target spaces without harm. Here, an aspiration-assisted adaptive printing system is developed that tracks, harvests, and relocates living and moving organisms on target spaces via a pick-and-place mechanism that continuously adapts to updated visual and spatial information about the organisms and target spaces.

Bile acids (BA) are synthesized in the human liver and undergo metabolism by host gut bacteria. In diseased states, gut microbial dysbiosis may lead to high primary unconjugated BA concentrations and significant perturbations to secondary BA. Hence, it is important to understand the microbial-mediated formation kinetics of secondary bile acids using physiologically relevant ex vivo human faecal microbiota models.

There are at least 500 naturally occurring amino acids, of which only 20 standard proteinogenic amino acids are used universally across all organisms in the synthesis of peptides and proteins. Non-standard amino acids can be incorporated into proteins or are intermediates and products of metabolic pathways. While the analysis of standard amino acids is well-defined, the analysis of non-standard amino acids can be challenging due to the wide range of physicochemical properties, and the lack of both reference standards and information in curated databases to aid compound identification.

E3-SCF (Skp1/cullin-1/F-box protein) polyubiquitin ligases activate the proteasomal degradation of over a thousand proteins, but the evolutionary diversification of the F-box protein (FBP) family of substrate receptor subunits has challenged their elucidation in protists. Here, we expand the FBP candidate list in the social amoeba Dictyostelium and show that the Skp1 interactome is highly remodeled as cells transition from growth to multicellular development. Importantly, a subset of candidate FBPs was less represented when the posttranslational hydroxylation and glycosylation of Skp1 was abrogated by deletion of the O-sensing Skp1 prolyl hydroxylase PhyA.
