Objectives: To examine the differences in 24-h urine composition between nephrolithiasis patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM) in a large cohort of stone-formers and to examine differences in stone composition between patients with and without DM.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective review of 1117 patients with nephrolithiasis and a 24-h urine analysis was completed. Univariable analysis of 24-h urine profiles and multivariable linear regression models were performed, comparing patients with and without DM.

Background/purpose: Living donor liver transplantation has become a cornerstone for the treatment of children with end-stage hepatic dysfunction, especially within populations or countries with low rates of organ utilization from deceased donors. The objective is to report our experience with 185 living donors operated on by a team pediatric surgeons in a tertiary center for pediatric liver transplantation.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of medical records of donors of hepatic grafts for transplant undergoing surgery between June 1998 and March 2013.
The complications of chronic urethral catheterization are well documented in the medical published data. Chronic urethral catheterization has been demonstrated to cause inflammatory changes within the bladder wall, promoting perforation and small bowel fistualization. In this report, we document the clinical course of a patient who presented with acute perforation of the bladder and small bowel as a result of Foley catheterization.

Therefore, we sought to examine the relationship between age and 24-hour urine composition.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed a database of our tertiary care stone clinic patients seen from March 2002 to February 2012.
Purpose: Infection of a penile prosthesis is a devastating complication that necessitates the removal of all device components. Many aspects of preoperative and intraoperative infection prophylaxis practices have been examined but the specific relevant factors remain unknown. We determined whether use of a mandatory checklist of perioperative practices believed to reduce the risk of prosthesis infection would impact patient safety.

Although the epithelioid variant has been reported to demonstrate an aggressive clinical behavior, classic AML is usually benign. Herein, we report a case of a 42-year-old asymptomatic woman with a lipomatous variant of renal AML associated with an inferior vena cava thrombus managed with radical nephrectomy and caval thrombectomy.

Temperature has been shown to directly correlate with increased stone disease. We examine the association between climactic factors and monthly urolithiasis presentation rates for 6 years at a single institution in New York City.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed of 6238 men aged 50 years to 75 years with prostate-specific antigen levels between 2.5 ng/mL and 10 ng/mL and a prior negative biopsy in the REduction by DUtasteride of PCa Events study who completed a 2-year biopsy.
Background: The current study was conducted to analyze the association between cigarette smoking and metastasis (the primary outcome) as well as time to biochemical disease recurrence (BCR), metastasis, castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), and prostate cancer-specific and overall mortality (secondary outcomes) after radical prostatectomy among men from the Shared Equal Access Regional Cancer Hospital cohort.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed of 1450 subjects for whom smoking status was available from preoperative notes. Analysis of baseline characteristics by smoking status was performed using the chi-square and rank sum tests.
Objective: To evaluate perspectives of urologists viewing live case demonstrations (LCD) and taped case demonstrations (TCD).
Method: A 15-question anonymous survey was distributed to attendees of the live surgery session at the American Urological Association 2012 national meeting (Atlanta) and the second International Challenges in Endourology meeting (Paris).
Results: Of 1000 surveys distributed, 253 were returned completed (response rate 25%).
Introduction: Methotrexate is a drug that has shown anti-ischemic effects in animal studies and positive results in heart failure clinical trials.
Methods: We will randomly assign 80 patients with acute myocardial infarction to receive methotrexate (0.05 mg/kg bolus followed by 0.
This article describes a straightforward and simple synthesis of ionically tagged water-soluble Eu(3+) and Tb(3+) complexes (with ionophilic ligands) applied for bioimaging of invasive mammal cancer cells (MDA-MB-231). Use of the task-specific ionic liquid 1-methyl-3-carboxymethyl-imidazolium chloride (MAI·Cl) as the ionophilic ligand (ionically tagged) proved to be a simple, elegant, and efficient strategy to obtain highly fluorescent water-soluble Eu(3+) (EuMAI) and Tb(3+) (TbMAI) complexes. TbMAI showed an intense bright green fluorescence emission selectively staining endoplasmic reticulum of MDA-MB-231 cells.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective analysis of 135 subjects from the SEARCH database treated between 1991-2009 with available preoperative serum folate levels. Patients' characteristics at the time of the surgery were analyzed with ranksum and linear regression.
Purpose: To evaluate the utility of two ipsilateral ureteral stents placed for benign and malignant ureteral obstruction.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of all cases of tandem ureteral stent (TUS) insertion at our institution from July 2007 through January 2013. Student t, Fisher exact, and log-rank test were used.
Objective: To determine the differences in 24-hour urine composition between apatite and brushite stone formers.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 110 calcium phosphate (CaP) stone formers with both stone composition analysis and 24-hour urinalysis available. Analysis of 24-hour urine constituents between apatite and brushite stone formers was performed using univariable t test and multivariable linear regression models, adjusting for clinical and demographic factors.
Purpose: We determined the accuracy of 24-hour urinalysis in predicting stone type and identify the associations between 24-hour urine elements with stone type.
Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 503 stone formers with stone composition analysis and 24-hour urinalysis available. Analysis of 24-hour urine elements across stone types was performed using Fisher's exact test and ANOVA.
Cardiac metastasis of germ cell tumors is extremely rare, particularly in females. We report a case of a 26-year-old previously healthy woman who presented with a 5-month history of abdominal pain, weight loss, fever, generalized lymphadenopathy, and acanthosis nigricans. Biopsy of cervical lymph nodes revealed a poorly differentiated neoplasm.

Large changes in oxygen availability in aquatic environments, ranging from anoxia through to hyperoxia, can lead to corresponding wide variation in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by animals with aquatic respiration. Therefore, animals living in marine, estuarine and freshwater environments have developed efficient antioxidant defenses to minimize oxidative stress and to regulate the cellular actions of ROS. Changes in oxygen levels may lead to bursts of ROS generation that can be particularly harmful.

Objective: To examine whether obesity is associated with enhanced PV growth measured by serial transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) measurements.
Design, Setting, And Participants: We conducted a secondary analysis of the REduction by DUtasteride of prostate Cancer Events (REDUCE) trial, which was originally aimed at cancer risk reduction among high-risk men with a single negative prestudy biopsy.
Objective: To, first, propose a novel scoring system to standardize reporting for percutaneous nephrolithotomy because the instruments currently available to predict the percutaneous nephrolithotomy outcomes are cumbersome, not validated, and of limited clinical utility; and, second, assess and predict the stone-free rates and perioperative parameters applying S.T.O.

An exploratory laparotomy revealed no macroscopically visible sites of lymph leakage that could be ligated. Lymph exudation was noted in areas near the subhepatic recess and in the lesser sac surrounding the pancreas, which was not amenable to suture.
