This is the first study to provide valuable insights into the effects of the Israeli Navy's 20-h rotating watch schedule on submariners' alertness, mood states, risk-taking behaviours, and sleep. Specifically, we assessed the impact of the non-circadian-aligned schedule on cognitive performance, mood, and behavioural outcomes in a highly controlled submarine environment. A total of 20 male submariners participated in an at-sea mission, where their cognitive performance, mood states, risk-taking propensity, and caffeine consumption were measured.

Intellectual disability (ID) is assumed to be a dynamic phenomenon influenced by personal and environmental factors. During the 18 months of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, most day centers remained open for adults with ID who lived with their families (most of them with severe/profound [S/P] ID) but were closed to those who lived in group homes (with moderate and mild ID). Owing to the fewer participants in day centers, adults with S/P ID received more hours of therapy than before the pandemic.

Chinese cities are core in the national carbon mitigation and largely affect global decarbonisation initiatives, yet disparities between cities challenge country-wide progress. Low-carbon transition should preferably lead to a convergence of both equity and mitigation targets among cities. Inter-city supply chains that link the production and consumption of cities are a factor in shaping inequality and mitigation but less considered aggregately.

Electrical activity at high gamma frequencies (70-170 Hz) is thought to reflect the activity of small cortical ensembles. For example, high gamma activity (often quantified by spectral power) can increase in sensory-motor cortex in response to sensory stimuli or movement. On the other hand, synchrony of neural activity between cortical areas (often quantified by coherence) has been hypothesized as an important mechanism for inter-areal communication, thereby serving functional roles in cognition and behavior.

Demand for food products, often from international trade, has brought agricultural land use into direct competition with biodiversity. Where these potential conflicts occur and which consumers are responsible is poorly understood. By combining conservation priority (CP) maps with agricultural trade data, we estimate current potential conservation risk hotspots driven by 197 countries across 48 agricultural products.

Global climate change has resulted in an increase in the number and intensity of environmental heat waves, both in areas traditionally associated with hot temperatures and in areas where heat waves did not previously occur. For military communities around the world, these changes pose progressively increasing risks of heat-related illnesses and interference with training sessions. This is a significant and persistent "noncombat threat" to both training and operational activities of military personnel.

Possessing intact mobility in older adults assures their continued independence. The early identification of reduced mobility in older adults with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is paramount for preventing their future physical deterioration. Hand grip strength (HGS), relative to body size, is associated with mobility in older T2DM patients.

The dynamic nature of intellectual disability (ID) and its many comorbidities necessitate repeated screening and functional diagnosis. However, the existing scales are lengthy and expensive and cannot be implemented at all levels of ID. During phase one of this study (September 2019-September 2020), the functional screening tool (FST-ID) was validated for adults with ID and then used as a clinical tool to collect data for 76 participants from their direct service providers (DSP).

Purpose: Areas of disturbed shear that arise following arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation are believed to contribute to the development of intimal hyperplasia (IH). The presence of helical flow can suppress areas of disturbed shear, which may protect the vasculature from IH. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine if helical flow, specifically spiral laminar flow (SLF), is present in patient-specific AVF models and is associated with a reduction in exposure to disturbed shear.

Background: The accelerated loss of muscle strength and mass observed in older type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients due to the combined effects of diabetes and obesity, greatly increases their risk for sarcopenia. Early detection and treatment of probable and confirmed sarcopenia is paramount to delay mobility disability. Using low handgrip strength cut-off points for the initial identification of sarcopenia according to the new European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP2) guidelines may mask the presence of sarcopenia.

With the emergence of numerous brain computer interfaces (BCI), their form factors, and clinical applications the terminology to describe their clinical deployment and the associated risk has been vague. The terms "minimally invasive" or "non-invasive" have been commonly used, but the risk can vary widely based on the form factor and anatomic location. Thus, taken together, there needs to be a terminology that best accommodates the surgical footprint of a BCI and their attendant risks.
