Interface Manipulations Using Cross-Linked Underlayers and Surface-Active Diblock Copolymers to Extend Morphological Diversity in High-χ Diblock Copolymer Thin Films.

Top and bottom interfaces of high-χ cylinder-forming polystyrene--maltoheptaose (PSMH) diblock copolymer (BCP) thin films are manipulated using cross-linked copolymer underlayers and a fluorinated phase-preferential surface-active polymer (SAP) additive to direct the self-assembly (both morphology and orientation) of BCP microdomains into sub-10 nm patterns. A series of four photo-cross-linkable statistical copolymers with various contents of styrene, a 4-vinylbenzyl azide cross-linker, and a carbohydrate-based acrylamide are processed into 15 nm-thick cross-linked passivation layers on silicon substrates. A partially fluorinated analogue of the PSMH phase-preferential SAP additive is designed to tune the surface energy of the top interface.

[Perception of kidney transplant patients of the need for information about their donors].

Objective: To describe the perceptions of renal transplant patients of the need for information about their donors and the potential influence of their donors' biological sex and age.

Materials And Methods: Analytical, observational, cross-sectional and prospective study. Kidney transplant patients over 18 years old who had been transplanted, at least, one year before were included.

Aggregation of Plate-like Colloids Induced by Charged Polymer Chains: Organization at the Nanometer Scale Tuned by Polymer Charge Density.

We study the aggregation of charged plate-like colloids, Na-montmorillonite clays, in the presence of ionenes, oppositely charged polymer chains. The choice of the charged polymer allows tuning its linear charge density to match/mismatch the average charge separation on the clay surfaces. We assess the nanoscale structure of the aggregates formed by small-angle X-ray and neutron scattering.

The Weighting of Cues to Upright Following Stroke With and Without a History of Pushing.

Objective: Perceived upright depends on three main factors: vision, graviception, and the internal representation of the long axis of the body. We assessed the relative contributions of these factors in individuals with sub-acute and chronic stroke and controls using a novel tool; the Oriented Character Recognition Test (OCHART). We also considered whether individuals who displayed active pushing or had a history of pushing behaviours had different weightings than those with no signs of pushing.

Shear-induced orientation of gyroid PS-b-P4VP(PDP) supramolecules.

The phase behavior of block copolymer based supramolecular complexes polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) and amphiphilic pentadecylphenol (PDP) molecules resembles the phase behavior of conventional block copolymers. Several PS-b-P4VP(PDP) complexes are found to self-assemble into gyroid nanostructures. Typically, the grains are randomly oriented with a maximal size of several micrometers.

A healable supramolecular polymer blend based on aromatic pi-pi stacking and hydrogen-bonding interactions.

An elastomeric, healable, supramolecular polymer blend comprising a chain-folding polyimide and a telechelic polyurethane with pyrenyl end groups is compatibilized by aromatic pi-pi stacking between the pi-electron-deficient diimide groups and the pi-electron-rich pyrenyl units. This interpolymer interaction is the key to forming a tough, healable, elastomeric material. Variable-temperature FTIR analysis of the bulk material also conclusively demonstrates the presence of hydrogen bonding, which complements the pi-pi stacking interactions.

[Antimicrobial resistance of bacteria causing diarrhea in children from Corrientes, Argentina].

In Corrientes (Argentina), from January 2004 to April 2005, fecal samples from under 5 years-old children with acute diarrhea were collected; the stool samples were cultured onto selective media, and those colonies suspected to be Salmonella, Vibrio, Aeromonas, Shigella, or Escherichia coli O157 were identified. [Environmental impact of ecological changes in a subtropical area].

Infectious, clinical-surgical and environmental variables were studied in Ituzaingó and Posadas (Argentina) and differences were analyzed from 1994 to 2000, which corresponds to the building of the binational dam Yacyretá (Argentina-Paraguay) and to the resulting reservoir. The chosen infectious variables were diarrhea and respiratory infections and the clinical-surgical variables were cardiovascular diseases and polytraumas. Environmental variables were also investigated.
