Acute Encephalopathy in a Patient with Raoultella Ornithinolytica Infection: A Challenging Presentation.

Raoultella ornithinolytica is a rare, gram-negative environmental enterobacterium. Although infections in humans caused by R. ornithinolytica are uncommon, there are increasing reports implicating it in urinary tract infections, hepatobiliary infections, and bacteremia, designating it as an emerging pathogen.

Somatic Reversion of a Novel Mutation Resulting in Atypical X-Linked Combined Immunodeficiency.

Mutations of the gene, which encodes for the interleukin-2 receptor common gamma chain (γ, CD132), can lead to X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency (X-SCID) associated with a TBNK phenotype as a result of dysfunctional γ-JAK3-STAT5 signaling. Lately, hypomorphic mutations of the gene have been described causing atypical SCID with a milder phenotype. Here, we report three brothers with low-normal lymphocyte counts and susceptibility to recurrent respiratory infections and cutaneous warts.

Comparison of pelvic C-clamp and pelvic binder for emergency stabilization and bleeding control in type-C pelvic ring fractures.

Severe bleeding is the major cause of death in unstable pelvic ring fractures. Therefore, a quick and efficient emergency stabilization and bleeding control is inevitable. C-clamp and pelvic binder are efficient tools for temporary bleeding control, especially from the posterior pelvic ring.

Chromatic aberration control for tunable all-silicone membrane microlenses.

Tunable multi-chamber microfluidic membrane microlenses with achromaticity over a given focal length range are demonstrated. In analogy to a fixed-focus achromatic doublet lens, the multi-lens system is based on a stack of microfluidic cavities filled with optically optimized liquids with precisely defined refractive index and Abbe number, and these are independently pneumatically actuated. The membranes separating the cavities form the refractive optical surfaces, and the curvatures as a function of pressure are calculated using a mechanical model for deformation of flexible plates.
