Heart Rate Variability and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Systematic Review.

Background: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a well-established surgical procedure used to treat significant coronary artery disease. Nevertheless, unfavorable cardiovascular events and complications, including cardiac arrhythmias may be observed in patients after CABG. Previous studies have revealed a relationship between risk of cardiac arrhythmias and abnormal heart rate variability (HRV), which reflects adverse alterations in cardiac autonomic functioning, that may occur in patients after a CABG procedure.

Altered sleep architecture in diabetes and prediabetes: findings from the Baependi Heart Study.

Study Objectives: People with diabetes and prediabetes are more likely to have sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), but few studies examined sleep architecture in people with diabetes or prediabetes in the absence of moderate-severe SDB, which was the aim of our cross-sectional study.

Methods: This cross-sectional sample is from the Baependi Heart Study, a family-based cohort of adults in Brazil. About 1074 participants underwent at-home polysomnography (PSG).
