Cherubism is a rare benign autosomal dominant disorder characterized by progressive, painless, bilateral enlargement of the mandible and/or maxilla because of bone replacement by fibrotic stromal cells and osteoclast-like cells forming multilocular cysts. The lesions typically stabilize and regress after puberty. We present a 14-year-old male with severe familial cherubism.

Characterization of phospholipid release from an experimental reusable wear silicone hydrogel contact lens was performed to assess the possible use of these lenses for phospholipid delivery to increase eye comfort to patients who prefer reusable wear lenses. Contact lenses were loaded with 200 μg of radio-labeled 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC) from a solution of n-propanol. To simulate 30 days of diurnal use with overnight cleaning, these lenses were eluted for 16 h at 35 °C into artificial tear fluid (ATF), and then eluted at room temperature (~22 °C) for 8 h in one of three commercial contact lens cleaning systems.

He had an HLA identical donor sister who was hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA positive. Some suggest that sickle cell disease (SCD) is associated with a "proinflammatory state" that predisposes patients to acute chest syndrome in the setting of triggering factors. Conflicting data emerged when inflammation markers in SCD were compared with healthy individuals. Therefore, we examined transgenic sickle and control mice at baseline and with endotoxin (LPS) intraperitoneal injection to determine whether a proinflammatory state truly exists.
