Interpersonal communication-, education- and counselling-based interventions to support adherence to oral anticancer therapy: a systematic review.

Many factors contribute to oral anti-cancer therapy adherence, including counselling and educational support. We systematically review the literature evaluating the effectiveness of interpersonal communication-, counselling- and education-based interventions on patient adherence to oral anticancer therapy. Using search terms pertaining to medication adherence, oral anticancer therapy, and communication, education, and counselling, we conducted a systematic search for full-text, original research articles prior to 3/13/20.

Continuity of Care Assessment Within a Vertically Integrated Care Management Organization Before and After COPD-Related Exacerbations.

Background: There is currently little research describing patient experience and continuity of care immediately prior, during, and following an acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). This analysis examined clinical characteristics, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)‑related medication patterns and outpatient visits before and after an AECOPD.

Methods: This retrospective analysis used electronic health records, medical claims, and pharmacy dispensing data for patients within the Kaiser Permanente Northwest Health System.

Pilot Study of a Patient Experience with an ELLIPTA Inhaler Electronic Medication Monitor and Associated Integrated System: A Prospective Observational Study Using the COPD Patient-Powered Research Network.

Background: Electronic medication monitors (EMMs) are associated with decreased rescue inhaler use, symptom burden, and increased medication adherence in asthma. However, the use of EMMs in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using the ELLIPTA dry powder inhaler has not been studied.

Methods: This was an open-label, single-arm, prospective observational study of EMMs and associated application (app) use over 12 weeks and up to 24 weeks (April-October 2019) in people with self-reported COPD aged ≥40 years enrolled in the COPD Patient-Powered Research Network, using an ELLIPTA inhaler.

Reported Problems and Adherence in Using Asthma Medications Among Adolescents and Their Caregivers.

Background: Many factors affect youth adherence to asthma medications. Better understanding of the relationship between problems reported by youth in using asthma medications, self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and adherence is needed.

Objective: The study examined the relationship between youth and caregiver problems in using asthma medications, asthma management self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and youth- and caregiver-reported adherence to asthma controller medications.

Subretinal gene therapy of mice with Bardet-Biedl syndrome type 1.

Purpose: To study safety and efficacy of subretinal adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector AAV-Bbs1 injection for treatment of a mouse model of Bardet-Biedl syndrome type 1 (BBS1).

Methods: Constructs containing a wild-type (WT) Bbs1 gene with and without a FLAG tag in AAV2/5 vectors were generated. Viral genomes were delivered by subretinal injection to right eyes and sham injections to left eyes at postnatal day 30 (P30) to P60.

TUDCA slows retinal degeneration in two different mouse models of retinitis pigmentosa and prevents obesity in Bardet-Biedl syndrome type 1 mice.

Purpose: To evaluate and compare the protective effect of tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) on photoreceptor degeneration in different models of retinal degeneration (RD) in mice.

Methods: Bbs(M390R/M390R) mice were injected subcutaneously twice a week, from P40 to P120, and rd10 mice were injected every 3 days from P6 to P38 with TUDCA or vehicle (0.15 M NaHCO(3)).
