CXCR1 and CXCR2 signaling play a critical role in neutrophil migration, angiogenesis, and tumorigenesis and are therefore an attractive signaling axis to target in a variety of indications. In human, a total of seven chemokines signal through these receptors and comprise the ELRCXC chemokine family, so named because of the conserved ELRCXC N-terminal motif. To fully antagonize CXCR1 and CXCR2 signaling, an effective therapeutic should block either both receptors or all seven ligands, yet neither approach has been fully realized clinically.

However, their effects on dynamic hyperinflation, an important mechanism contributing to symptoms and exercise tolerance in patients with COPD, have not been evaluated. Twenty-seven patients with moderate to severe COPD (forced expiratory volume in 1 second 52 ± 13% predicted) completed pulmonary function tests, echocardiography, maximal exercise tests, and cycle endurance tests at baseline.

Recent works have shown that some root secreted molecules, the strigolactones, activate the presymbiotic growth of AM fungi at extremely low concentrations. These compounds, derived from carotenoid biosynthesis, induce the mitochondrial metabolism of the fungus.
