Understanding the Use of Program Resources During Virtual Recruitment by Psychiatry Residency Applicants.

Objective: This study aims to understand the residency resources used by psychiatry applicants who applied during the first two virtual recruitment seasons, match 2021 and 2022.

Methods: Between January 27, 2022, and February 24, 2022, a non-probabilistic sample of psychiatry residents from the match 2018 through match 2022 cycles were asked to complete a survey via email and social media. Due to the continuation of virtual recruitment post-pandemic, an analysis of psychiatry residents in the match 2021 and 2022 cycles was conducted.

Psychotropic usage by patients presenting to an academic eating disorders program.

Purpose: To assess psychotropic use patterns and possible associations with age, eating disorder diagnosis and psychiatric comorbidity in adolescents and young adults with a primary eating disorder.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of 86 consecutive patients with a primary eating disorder from August 2012 to December 2014 was conducted. Patients presented for a multidisciplinary evaluation at a United States-based academic program for eating disorders.

Reexamining the Role of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Anorexia Nervosa in Adolescents.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is rarely, if ever, considered for the treatment of severe anorexia nervosa (AN) or other eating disorders comorbid with an affective illness. Mood disorders are common in these patients, and psychotropic medications, although frequently used, have limited evidence of benefit in AN or copresenting depressive symptoms. Even when the illness is life threatening, ECT as a treatment may be overlooked.

Onset of catatonia at puberty: electroconvulsive therapy response in two autistic adolescents.

Catatonia is a syndrome of motor and behavioral disturbance. It is a poorly understood condition, which is underrecognized and may go untreated despite intensive medical workup and numerous unsuccessful medication trials. However, with treatments known to be effective, such as benzodiazepines and/or electroconvulsive therapy, patients may return to their baseline functioning.
