Background: Recent research has demonstrated that the consumption of high fat diet (HFD) can lead to metabolic dysfunctions and cognitive impairments in both mice models and humans. Given the potential negative effects of HFD, it is crucial to explore non-pharmacological alternatives that can serve as a potential treatment for both metabolic dysfunctions and behavioral effects induced by HFD. Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess the impact of chronic and intermittent exposure to cold temperature on the metabolic and cognitive changes associated with HFD consumption.

Pollution incidents cause transient water quality alterations during the passage of contaminants' plume along watercourses, with plume passage period and contaminants' concentrations modelled by advection-dispersion equations. Despite being transient, water quality alterations can impose many impacts on the streamwater ecosystem services. This study proposes two frameworks based on Habitat Equivalency Analysis to be applied during assessments of streamwaters' pollution incidents and respective compensation panoramas: (1) Streamwater interim loss framework, to calculate interim loss debits caused by transient alterations in the streamwater quality; (2) Total credit framework, to calculate streamwater credits generated by improvements in selected watercourse's streamwater quality, produced by wastewater treatment plants in this study.

Lectins from Diocleinae subtribe species (family Leguminosae) are of special interest since they present a wide spectrum of biological activities, despite their high structural similarity. During their synthesis in plant cells, these proteins undergo post-translational processing resulting in the formation of three chains (α, β, γ), which constitute the lectins' subunits. Furthermore, such wild-type proteins are presented as isolectins or with different combinations of these chains, which undermine their biotechnological potential.

We carried out a qualitative review of the literature on the influence of forced or voluntary exercise in Parkinson's Disease (PD)-induced animals, to better understand neural mechanisms and the role of neurotrophic factors (NFs) involved in the improvement of motor behavior. A few studies indicated that forced or voluntary exercise may promote neuroprotection, through upregulation of NF expression, against toxicity of drugs that simulate PD. Forced training, such as treadmill exercise and forced-limb use, adopted in most studies, in addition to voluntary exercise on a running wheel are suitable methods for NFs upregulation.
