A domino sulfonylation/intramolecular C-N coupling/dehydrogenation reaction was realized between pent-4-ynamides and sulfonyl chlorides by catalysis of Cu(acac) and 2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)-1,1'-binaphthalene. The reaction provides a convenient approach to sulfonyl-functionalized pyrrol-2-ones. This method can also be applied to the synthesis of 3-alkylidene isoindolinones from 2-ethynyl-benzamides.

The treatment of infected bone defects includes infection control and repair of the bone defect. The development of biomaterials with anti-infection and osteogenic ability provides a promising strategy for the repair of infected bone defects. Owing to its antibacterial properties, chitosan (an emerging natural polymer) has been widely studied in bone tissue engineering.

The C(sp)-H functionalization of -pentafluorobenzoyl ketone oximes was implemented under visible light irradiation with copper complexes as catalysts. The reactions involve iminyl-radical-mediated intramolecular hydrogen atom transfer as the key step, with the iminyl radicals being generated via copper-effected N-O cleavage. The reaction afforded 3,4-dihydro-2-pyrroles under the conditions of [Cu(DPEphos)(bcp)]PF and DABCO, while γ-pentafluorobenzoyloxy ketones were produced predominantly when [Cu(dpp)]PF and InCl·4HO were used as catalysts.

Visible light-driven azidation of vinyl arenes with azidobenziodoxole as the azidating agent was investigated in acetonitrile by using Cu(I)(phenanthroline) complex [Cu(dap)]PF as photocatalyst. The reactions generated three types of difunctionalization products, which correspond to reaction patterns of amido-azidation, benzoyloxy-azidation, and diazidation. The electronic nature of the aryl group attached to the olefin moiety was found to play a crucial role in determining the reaction consequence: when the aryl group was electron-rich, the reactions afforded benzoyloxy-azidation products exclusively; for highly electron-deficient vinyl arenes, by contrast, diazidation products were generated in moderate yields.

Reliable and real-time information on soil and crop properties is important for the development of management practices in accordance with the requirements of a specific soil and crop within individual field units. This is particularly the case in salt-affected agricultural landscape where managing the spatial variability of soil salinity is essential to minimize salinization and maximize crop output. The primary objectives were to use linear mixed-effects model for soil salinity and crop yield calibration with horizontal and vertical electromagnetic induction (EMI) measurements as ancillary data, to characterize the spatial distribution of soil salinity and crop yield and to verify the accuracy of spatial estimation.

We describe a compact double-layer waveguide grating splitter that not only achieves efficient coupling between single mode fiber and a silicon-on-insulator optical waveguide but also realizes effective splitting. By appropriate choice of waveguide/grating parameters, including thicknesses, periods, height, and fill factor to optimize the mode matching, coupling efficiency is improved and the value of power difference of each output port is also significantly decreased. The maximum of power difference between four output ports is about 6.

Serine proteinase homologues (SPHs), as one of prophenoloxiase-activating factors (PPAFs), play critical roles in innate immunity of crabs. Based on an EST from the eyestalk full length cDNA library, the complete cDNA (designated as PtSPH) and genomic DNA of SPH from the swimming crab Portunus trituberculatus were cloned in this study. The estimated molecular weight of mature PtSPH (354 amino acids) was 38.

Hsp70 can stimulate cells of the innate immune system directly by acting as "danger"-signaling molecules. To understand the immune defense mechanisms of swimming crab Portunus trituberculatus (Decapoda: Brachyura: Portunidae), the cDNA of Hsp70 (designated PtHsp70) was cloned by the combination of homology cloning and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). The full-length PtHsp70 cDNA was 2195 bp, including an open reading frame (ORF) of 1950 bp encoding a polypeptide of 650 amino acids with estimated molecular mass of 71.

The oxygen consumption rate and suffocation point of Sepiella maindroni were determined through the measurement of dissolved oxygen in control and experimental respiration chambers by Winkler's method, and the changes of S. maindroni enzyme activities under different levels of hypoxia stress were studied. The results indicated that the oxygen consumption rate of S.
