Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the link between weekend outdoor activity duration (WCOD) and myopia rates among students in China, surveying over 100 schools in six cities.
  • Findings revealed that students with myopia spent less time outdoors on weekends than those without myopia, with a significant negative relationship between WCOD and myopia prevalence, particularly notable with 2-4 hours of WCOD.
  • The research suggests that increasing outdoor time on weekends may help decrease the risk of myopia, indicating that outdoor exposure is important for eye health in students.

Article Synopsis
  • Formaldehyde is a toxic indoor air pollutant that negatively impacts lung health, with unclear mechanisms of toxicity.
  • This study focused on the circRNA rno_circRNA_006061, which was found to be up-regulated in lung tissues exposed to formaldehyde and is linked to the miRNA rno-miR-128-3p and the p38/ATF3 signaling pathway.
  • Results suggest that rno_circRNA_006061 promotes lung cell apoptosis by inhibiting rno-miR-128-3p, indicating potential therapeutic targets for lung damage caused by formaldehyde exposure.

The aim of the present study was to elucidate the evolutionary trajectory of colon cells from normal colon mucosa, to adenoma, then to carcinoma in the same microenvironment. Normal colon, adenoma and carcinoma tissues from the same patient were analyzed by single-cell sequencing, which perfectly simulated the process of time-dependent colon cancer due to the same microenvironment. A total of 22 cell types were identified.

Formaldehyde (FA) serves as a prevailing air pollutant, which has seriously threatened public health in recent years. Of all the known health effects, lung injury is one of the most severe risks. However, little is known about the circRNAs related molecular mechanism in the development of lung injury induced by FA.

Gastric cancer is a common malignant tumor in China; however, its carcinogenesis remains unknown. Focadhesin (FOCAD) is a tumor suppressor gene in gliomas, its expression, role, and mechanism in gastric cancer have not been defined. The aim of the present study was to explore the expression pattern of FOCAD in human normal tissues and cancer tissues and elucidate the role and regulatory mechanism of Early Growth Response 1 (EGR1) in FOCAD and its intron, miR-491-5p, in gastric cancer.

Objective: Formaldehyde (FA) is known to induce lung injury, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains largely unclear. CDR1as is an important member of the circular RNAs (circRNAs) family and functions as miRNA sponges with gene-regulatory potential. Our earlier circRNA microarray data showed CDR1as was highly expressed in lung tissue exposed to FA.

Although podophyllotoxin (POD) demonstrates high efficiency to inhibit various cancers, its clinic application is limited to poor bioavailability. Nanoparticles derived from homodimeric prodrugs with high drug loading potential are emerging as promising nanomedicines. However, complete intracellular drug release remains a major hindrance to the use of homodimeric prodrugs-based nanomedicine.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. Our previous study revealed that circular RNA (circRNA)-FOXO3 is highly expressed in lung cancer and inhibits cell proliferation. However, to the best of our knowledge, at present, no study has focused on the specific mechanism of circRNA-FOXO3 in drug resistance.

Background: Beclin-1 is an autophagy gene and higher levels suggest mammalian testicular damage. Our study aims at exploring the role of Beclin-1 in non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) patients and clarifying the predictive value of Beclin-1for sperm retrieval in microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE).

Methods: In the present study, 62 NOA patients were finally recruited.

Although circular RNAs (circRNAs) can function as microRNAs (miRNAs) sponges to participate in spermatogenesis, little is known about the functions of circRNAs in testis exposed to formaldehyde. In this study, twenty-four male SD rats (6-8 weeks) were randomly assigned to four groups, including a control group, 0.5, 2.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines trends in sperm concentration (SC) and total sperm count (TSC) among healthy Chinese males from 1981 to 2019, showing a significant decline in both metrics over the last four decades.
  • Previous studies have indicated that men in other countries experienced similar declines in SC and TSC, but data specific to Chinese males had been controversial until this systematic review.
  • The analysis included data from 111 studies with over 327,000 participants, and results were analyzed using linear and meta-regression methods, confirming substantial decreases in SC and TSC across different subgroups throughout the study period.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how formaldehyde exposure affects male reproductive health, specifically focusing on the gene SPO11, which is essential for sperm production.
  • - Adult male rats were exposed to varying doses of formaldehyde over eight weeks, revealing that higher doses led to reduced levels of SPO11 and negative changes in testicular tissue.
  • - The results suggest that downregulated SPO11 may play a significant role in testicular damage and fertility issues linked to long-term formaldehyde exposure.

The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is crucial for cancer progression. Evidence has shown that miR-22 and miR-214 play a key role in colon cancer progression; however, the underlying mechanism remains to be known. The effects of miR-22 and miR-214 on EMT are contradictory in different cancers, and whether miR-22 and miR-214 are involved in the colon cancer EMT process needs to be elucidated.
