Purpose: the aim of the present study is to analyse the composition of the currently available topical antiseptic products and the related scientific evidence, and to discuss the implications of their use in the prevention of endophthtalmitis.
Methods: products available on the market until February 2024 were considered. Information provided on the illustration leaflet of each product were analysed.

Purpose: To examine the feasibility and outcomes of a modified technique for the implantation of scleral fixated Carlevale intraocular lens (IOL) (I71 FIL SSF. Soleko IOL Division, Pontecorvo, Italy), and to analyze the occurrence of adverse events.
Methods: This is a retrospective observational study conducted revising patients charts from 2018 to 2023.
Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is a sight-threatening condition that may lead to blindness if left untreated. Surgical treatments may vary and are tailored to a single patient. Anatomical and functional results may vary, due to factors that are currently under study.

Screw-type injectors are useful to control IOL injection speed, but the surgeon needs to use both hands during implantation. It may result in a lack of eye stability, especially under topical anesthesia.

As clinical experiences have accumulated, it has become mandatory to summarize data to give information that can be useful in everyday practice. We conducted a systematic review to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies that reported 12-month changes in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in patients with nAMD on anti-VEGF monotherapy.

Soleko IOL Division, Italy).
Methods: The technique was conducted with only three transconjunctival sclerotomies and a corneal tunnel to perform intraocular lens explantation, posterior vitrectomy and Carlevale intraocular lens implantation.
We report the case of a 16-year-old girl with 1p36 deletion syndrome, who experienced visual loss in both eyes for 2 months because of lamellar cataracts. Mutations on some 1p36 genes in both experimental models and humans may be associated with cataract. This is the first detailed description of acquired juvenile-onset bilateral cataract with 1p36 deletion.

She was left aphakic and referred to the Clinica Oculistica, Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Friuli Centrale, Udine, Italy. After 2 days, she underwent pars plana vitrectomy, with removal of the nuclear fragments, and secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

While diagnostic and therapeutic efforts have been focused on respiratory complications of the disease, several ocular implications have also emerged. SARS-CoV-2 RNA has been found in tears of the infected patients, and reports suggest that the ocular surface could serve as a portal of entry and a reservoir for viral transmission.

While effective treatment is available for neovascular AMD, no therapy is successful for the non-neovascular form. Herein, the authors report the current knowledge on non-neovascular AMD pathogenesis and the promising research on treatments.

The isolated pathogen resulted to be , a filamentous, yeast-like fungus that can be commonly found in normal human microflora, with an immunosuppression-related pathogenicity. A literature research revealed a single case of ophthalmic infection - a keratitis - caused by this pathogen.

The former is performed by computing the mean shoreline displacement for the identified coastal segments, i.e.

Though not considered a diagnostic criterion for most EDS subtypes, cardiovascular involvement is a well-known complication in EDS. A case-control study was carried out on 28 adults with JHS/EDS-HT diagnosed according to current criteria, compared to 29 healthy subjects evaluating resting electrocardiographic (ECG), 24-h ECG and resting heart ultrasound data.

Objective: A high body mass index has been suggested to be protective in patients with coronary artery disease and in those undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). However, these conflicting results might be related to the different risk profiles among the various body mass index categories. We sought to clarify the effect of varying degrees of excessive body weight on hard clinical outcomes in patients undergoing CABG.

Both Crohn disease and Ulcerative Colitis are characterized by malabsorption of some micronutrients, such as carnitine, which is a very important element for myocardial metabolism, being demonstrated that its deficiency correlates with heart involvement in coeliac disease. Aims of this study are to evaluate cardiac function in IBD patients asymptomatic for cardiovascular diseases and to correlate the cardiac data with the profile of carnitine esters plasma levels.

Antigen-antibody (IgA) complexes activate the alternative complement pathway, resulting in inflammation and small vessels vasculitis. We present the case of a 53 years old Italian woman with HSP who was previously hospitalized for purpura skin lesions of the lower legs and diarrhea; a skin biopsy showed a leukocytoclastic vasculitis with perivascular accumulation of neutrophils and mononuclear cells.

Presently, several etiologies were considered for the development of TTS, the most accredited ones suggest that stress, adrenoreceptor hyperactivity and estrogens are the most important causes of transient morphofunctional alterations of left ventricle. We describe the case of 60 year-old woman with a chest pain occurred after a quarrel.

We report on 21 HT-EDS patients selected from a group of 40 subjects with suspected mild hereditary connective tissue disorder.

A few studies were, on the contrary, done for determining the role of hypertension and/or type 2 diabetes mellitus for the occurrence of the atherosclerotic plaques in different anatomical sites. Moreover these studies deal with atherosclerotic lesions that are generally considered, without differentiating their morphology as a function of the underlying disease, territory, and risk factors.

Background And Aims: Idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) and coeliac disease (CD) are two pathological conditions which may lead, by different mechanisms, to malabsorption of various micronutrients, including carnitine, active in cardiac metabolism. The aim of the present investigation was primarily to evaluate differences in serum concentrations of total carnitine between IDCM patients and patients with IDCM associated with CD and then also to evaluate, in the latter, the effect of a gluten-free diet on serum concentrations of total carnitine.
Method And Results: Serum carnitine was determined by enzymatic spectrophotometric assay in three groups of individuals: group A, 10 patients (5 males, 5 females), mean age 46.
