Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers isolated 69 soil microorganisms and discovered that a specific strain, Burkholderia pyrrocinia (F12), effectively reduces the pathogen’s activity, achieving a 95.8% reduction in lab tests and 63.09% in the field.
  • * B. pyrrocinia F12 also inhibited the production of the mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON), suggesting its potential as a biocontrol agent and biofertilizer for sustainable agriculture.

Objective: To investigate the effect of Neferine (Nef) on diabetic nephropathy (DN) and to explore the mechanism of Nef in DN based on miRNA regulation theory.

Methods: A DN mouse model was constructed and treated with Nef. Serum creatinine (Crea), blood urea (UREA) and urinary albumin were measured in mice by kits, and renal histopathological changes and fibrosis were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining and Masson staining.

We report a case of a 54-year-old female patient who underwent PAC-IOL implantation 18 years prior to presentation. The patient had a best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) 20/20 in the right eye (OD) postoperatively with normal eye exam on routine follow-up since then. The patient presented for acute onset decreased visual acuity in the right eye.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of femtosecond laser and excimer laser on an intracorneal inlay (KAMRA) implanted in animal models.

Methods: Femtosecond laser was used to create corneal intrastromal pockets at 250μm depth in five porcine eyes. Four intact KAMRA inlays, examined by slit-lamp biomicroscopy and light microscopy, were implanted in the pocket of four eyes.

Mitchell-Riley syndrome is a genetic disorder characterized by neonatal diabetes, pancreatic hypoplasia, intestinal atresia and/or malrotation, biliary atresia, and gallbladder aplasia or hypoplasia. It was considered a variant of the Martinez-Frias syndrome with similar phenotypic characteristics, except for neonatal diabetes and tracheoesophageal fistula. However, the genetic mutation in (regulatory factor X on chromosome 6) RFX6 was only detected in babies who had diabetes, making it different from the previously known mutations for the disease.

Based on the survey data of macrobenthos in the intertidal flat of Luoyuan Bay in 2009, and by using Brey' s empirical formula, this paper estimated the macrobenthos secondary productivity, production/biomass (P/B) ratio, and their spatiotemporal distribution patterns in the flat. The annual secondary productivity and P/B ratio of the macrobenthos in the flat were estimated as 18.58 g AFDM (ash free dry mass) x m(-2) x a(-1) and 0.

Purpose: An International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) consensus classification system for focal cortical dysplasias (FCDs) has been published in 2011 specifying clinicopathologic FCD variants. The aim of the present work was to microscopically assess interobserver agreement and intraobserver reproducibility for FCD categories among an international group of neuropathologists with different levels of experience and access to epilepsy surgery tissue.

Methods: Surgical FCD specimens covering a broad histopathology spectrum were retrieved from 22 patients with epilepsy.

Objective: To investigate the value of spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC) technique in the ventricular septal defect diagnosis.

Methods: A total of 1,163 fetuses were enrolled in this study, diagnosed by fetal echocardiography and analyzed by STIC technique. We obtained effective STIC volumes from the fetus according to the Goncalves' report, and judged fetal cardiac structure from STIC volume information again with a double-blind method.
