Background: There is no gold standard for a walking orthosis after first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) arthrodesis surgery. Evaluation of plantar pressure measures and patient perceptions for different orthoses may assist surgeons to choose a postsurgery orthotic. The purpose of this study was to measure plantar pressure under the distal first ray during walking and patient perceptions of comfort, stability, and preference with 4 different orthoses in patients with a history of first MTPJ arthrodesis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how trauma, hemorrhage, and peritonitis affect cortisol levels in non-human primates, specifically Cynomologus Macaques
  • Two groups were tested: one with polytrauma (including liver resection, uncontrolled hemorrhage, and cecal perforation) and another with just hemorrhage and liver resection.
  • Results showed a 600% increase in cortisol levels in the polytrauma group compared to only a 20% increase in the hemorrhage-only group, suggesting that severe trauma significantly triggers adrenal response, while simple hemorrhage may not.

Introduction: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to plague militaries and defense forces. While the historical recognition of the impact of STIs on operations is evident, contemporary surveillance and research activities are limited. As Neisseria gonorrhoeae and other sexually transmitted pathogens become increasingly resistant to antibiotics, the role of the Department of Defense (DoD) in disease surveillance and clinical research is essential to military Force Health Protection.

Purpose: Positive airway pressure (PAP) adherence is poor in comorbid OSA/PTSD. SensAwake™ (SA) is a wake-sensing PAP algorithm that lowers pressure when wake is detected. We compared auto-PAP (aPAP) with and without SA for comorbid OSA/PTSD.
