The neurological disorders caused by Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) in the absence of skin rash are a challenge to the clinician. The presentation varies from acute to subacute to chronic. Reactivation of VZV usually produces zoster (shingles), meningitis or meningoencephalitis, cerebellitis, isolated or multiple cranial nerve palsies (polyneuritis cranialis), myelitis, and vasculopathy.
