: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by joint damage and commonly linked to symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, and pain. Traditional Chinese Medicine offers complementary and integrative approaches in the management of rheumatoid arthritis, potentially providing additional options that may help address treatment challenges and enhance overall patient care. This paper explores the mechanism of action of berberine from the perspective of cellular exosomes by mediating exosomal contents and thus treating RA.

Six polypyridyl Ru(II) complexes were designed for single-molecule photodynamic and sonodynamic therapy (PDT/SDT) synergistic multimodal anticancer toward cisplatin-resistant NSCLC. They demonstrated lowest 3ES with distinct intraligand transition nature, which is beneficial for singlet oxygen generation. Remarkable quantum yields of both singlet oxygen and superoxide anion under either 808 nm laser irradiation or ultrasonic treatment and could induce apoptosis and ferroptosis of A549R cells.

Aim: To assess the global and regional burden of hip fractures associated with type 1 diabetes (T1D) from 1990 to 2021.

Materials And Methods: The population attributable fraction was calculated by combining the published risk ratio with T1D prevalence (age ≥ 20 years) from the Global Burden of Disease study to estimate the T1D-associated hip-fracture burden. Trends were assessed using the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC).

HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibitors play a crucial role in the treatment of HIV by preventing the activity of the enzyme responsible for the replication of the virus. The HIV-1 Tat protein binds to transactivation response (TAR) RNA and recruits host factors to stimulate HIV-1 transcription. We have created a small library consisting of 4 × 6 polypyridyl Ru(II) complexes that selectively bind to TAR RNA, with targeting groups specific to HIV-1 TAR RNA.

As a typical RNA virus, the genetic information on HIV-1 is entirely stored in RNA. The reverse transcription activity of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) plays a crucial role in the replication and transmission of the virus. Non-nucleoside RT inhibitors (NNRTIs) block the function of RT by binding to the RNA binding site on RT, with very few targeting viral RNA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the rising burden of HIV in the Asia-Pacific region from 1990 to 2019, highlighting a lack of comprehensive evidence despite increasing severity.
  • Findings show that countries with low sociodemographic indicators, particularly Papua New Guinea and Nepal, experience significantly high rates of age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (ASDR), mortality (ASMR), and incidence (ASIR) related to HIV/AIDS.
  • Unsafe sex is identified as the leading cause of HIV-related ASDR across 29 countries in the region, emphasizing the need for targeted public health policies tailored to each country's socioeconomic status to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS.

We present the case of a 26-year-old woman with recurrent episodes of severe pain, weakness, and atrophy in her bilateral upper extremities during pregnancy and puerperium. She reported 2 similar episodes at ages 5 and 10 years, after which she fully recovered. On examination, we observed significant atrophy in her bilateral upper extremity muscles with decreased strength.

The total suspended particulate (TSP) samples were collected in the Qingdao coastal region and over the Yellow and Bohai Sea from June to July in 2016. The diurnal and nightly TSP samples were also continuously collected in the Qingdao coastal region from August 6 to 15. The concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP), dissolved total nitrogen (DTN), dissolved total phosphorus (DTP), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) in the TSP samples were analyzed.

Size-segregated atmospheric aerosol samples were collected from September 2015 to February 2016 at a coastal site in Qingdao, and the concentrations of major water-soluble inorganic ions were analyzed by ion chromatography. Characteristics and variation of size distribution of secondary inorganic components in aerosol were discussed, as well as the formation process and influencing factors of SNA(sulfate, nitrate and ammonium). The results indicated that the concentrations of NO, SO, NH, NO, Cl in the aerosols were in the range of 10.

It is widely accepted that the role of the high molecular weight (HMW) component is cooperative in shear-induced crystallization, owing to entanglements among long chains. However, this paper demonstrates that the HMW component has a novel effect on structural evolution during the process of multi-melt multi-injection molding (MIM), organized as follows. First, the appropriate HDPE system with an incremental concentration of HMW tails was established.

The formation of a hybrid shish-kebab (HSK) structure with different degrees of lamellar orientations was first observed in the solution crystallization of polyethylene (PE) in the presence of carbon nanofibers (CNFs). In this study, PE crystal lamellae were periodically decorated on the surface of CNFs and were aligned approximately perpendicular to the long axes of the CNFs, forming aligned hybrid shish-kebab nanostructures. More importantly, the fascinating structure was directly formed in all regions of the injection molded bars of HDPE/CNF composites, via a gas-assisted injection molding (GAIM), instead of the shell-core structure.

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) possess unique properties of graphene and exhibit a series of new phenomena of 0 dimension (D) carbon materials. Thus, GQDs have attracted much attention from researchers and have shown great promise for many applications. Recently, many works focus on GQDs-metal ions and metal nanoparticles (NPs).

Objective: To determine the value of blink reflex in early diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of Bell palsy.

Methods: Blink reflex and facial nerve conduction were examined in 58 patients with Bell palsy within one week after symptom onset. The patients without response of R1 , R2 and R2 ' waves were classified as complete efferent retardarce (Group A, 30 cases), and those with response of R1 , R2 and R2 ' waves were classified as incomplete efferent anomalies (Group B, 28 cases).

Objective: To explore the profile of false memory in aMCI (amnesia mild cognitive impairment) and to elucidate the neuropsychological mechanism of false memory.

Methods: False memory provoked by pictures and feeling-of-knowing (FOK) test in episodic memory (EM) were conducted in 25 aMCI patients at our hospital from October 2009 to May 2010. And 25 age and education level-matched healthy patients were recruited into the healthy control (HC) group.
