Herein, the hydrogen halogenation reaction of diazo compounds with three new halogenating agents under photoinduced conditions is reported. This method realized hydrofluorination, hydrochlorination, and hydrobromination (56 cases in total, with the highest preparative yield of 94%) without requiring heating, transition metal catalysts or photocatalysts and exhibits a broad substrate scope. Notably, gram-scale synthesis using a continuous flow reactor was performed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores sex-specific differences in metabolic abnormalities in first-episode antipsychotics-naïve schizophrenia (FEAN-SCZ), focusing on glucose and lipid profiles in patients.
  • A total of 172 FEAN-SCZ patients (83 males, 89 females) and 31 healthy controls were assessed for psychopathology and underwent glycolipid profiling.
  • Results showed that both male and female FEAN patients had higher glucose levels than controls, with distinct lipid profile changes observed in males with impaired glucose tolerance, highlighting the need for tailored metabolic assessments in treatment.*

Leachate is a substantial reservoir of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) within the environment. However, comprehensive information on the occurrence and fate of PFASs in leachate, particularly in semi-arid and moderate-elevation regions where PFASs may aggregate, is lacking. Here, 13 legacy PFASs were investigated in leachate from landfills and an incineration plant in such area.

Human trophoblastic cell surface antigen 2 (Trop2) is a glycoprotein, a cellular marker of trophoblastic and stem cells, and a calcium signaling transducer involved in several signaling pathways, leading to the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of tumors. It is expressed at a low level in normal epithelial cells, but at a high level in many tumors, making it an ideal target for cancer therapy. According to previous literature, Trop2 is broadly expressed in all breast cancer subtypes, especially in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC).

Background: The impact of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors on the postoperative recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with persistent AF undergoing an initial radiofrequency ablation is not yet established. The objective of this study is to assess the impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on the recurrence of AF after radiofrequency ablation in patients with type 2 diabetes complicated persistent AF.

Methods: A total of 182 patients with type 2 diabetes and persistent AF, who underwent their first radiofrequency ablation for AF at our center, were enrolled and divided into two groups: the SGLT2 inhibitor group and the non-SGLT2 inhibitor group.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to assess reproductive outcomes of D6 blastocysts transferred on day 6 in comparison to those transferred on day 7 of progesterone exposure in frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 2029 D6 single blastocysts from the first frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles of patients at the Hospital for Reproductive Medicine Affiliated to Shandong University from February 2017 to January 2020. Participants were divided into Group A (blastocyst transferred on the 6th day of progesterone exposure, n=1634) and Group B (blastocyst transferred on the 7th day of progesterone exposure, n=395).

The production of cheap, efficient, and stable photocatalysts for degrading antibiotic contaminants remains challenging. Herein, BiO/boron nitride (BN)/CoO ternary composites were synthesized using the impregnation method. The morphological characteristics, structural features, and photochemical properties of the prepared photocatalysts were investigated via X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible (Vis) diffuse reflectance spectrum techniques.

PCOS is a complex and heterogeneous metabolic disorder that affects 6-20% of women of reproductive age. However, research on phosphorylation modification proteomics in PCOS remains lacking. PCOS can be divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of insulin resistance: PCOS with insulin resistance (PCOS-IR) and PCOS non-insulin resistant (PCOS-NIR).

Objective: To evaluate the progression of electrophysiological phenomena in atrial fibrillation (AF) and elucidate the association between the left atrial conduction velocity (LACV) and AF recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation.

Methods: A total of 188 AF patients (121 paroxysmal AF and 67 persistent AF) who underwent PVI for the first time were enrolled in this prospective study. The left atrium was mapped using a 20-pole electrode catheter combined with the CARTO3 system.

Aroma is an important sensory factor in evaluating the quality of pear fruits. This study used headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to analyze the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of three crispy pears and five soft pears during shelf life, and the changes in soluble solids content (SSC) were analyzed. The results showed that the SSC of the soft pears such as Nanguoli, Jingbaili and Louis was always higher than that of the crispy pears throughout shelf life.

This meta-analysis investigated the effect of time-restricted eating (TRE) as an economical lifestyle intervention for the prevention of metabolic syndrome and improving the related metabolic variables. The Cochrane library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, clinical trials, and other databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). We included 22 RCTs (1004 participants, aged 18-75 years, including healthy subjects, prediabetes and overweight patients) designed to evaluate the effect of TRE on metabolic parameters.

Objectives: Speed of onset can be critical to an analgesic's efficacy treating acute pain. To enhance onset, a new oral acetaminophen formulation intended to be fast acting was developed. Two studies evaluated the analgesic onset, efficacy, and safety of this fast-acting acetaminophen (FA-acetaminophen) tablet relative to commercial acetaminophen caplets (ES-acetaminophen) and commercial ibuprofen liquid-filled gelatin capsules (LG-ibuprofen).

Background: In this study, we conducted this population-based study to evaluate the genetic diversity and clustering rate of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) strains using the whole-genome sequencing (WGS), to better understand its transmission in Ordos.

Methods: All patients with culture-positive TB notified in Ordos from January 2021 to December 2022 were recruited. WGS was performed to analyze single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and to identify genotypic drug susceptibilities of MTB isolates.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, primarily due to its propensity for metastasis. Patients diagnosed with localized primary cancer have higher survival rates than those with metastasis. Thus, it is imperative to discover biomarkers for the early detection of NSCLC and the timely prediction of tumor metastasis to improve patient outcomes.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are cells that detach from the primary tumor and enter the bloodstream, playing a crucial role in the metastasis of lung cancer. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of drugs specifically designed to target CTCs and prevent tumor metastasis. In this study, we present evidence that polyphyllin VII, a potent anticancer compound, effectively inhibits the metastasis of lung cancer by inducing a process called anoikis in CTCs.
