Purpose: Aortic stenosis (AS) is a common cardiovascular condition where early detection of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction is essential for timely intervention and optimal management. Current echocardiographic measurements, such as ejection fraction (EF), are insensitive to minor changes in LV function, and strain imaging is typically limited to the global longitudinal strain (GLS) parameter due to robustness issues. This study introduces a novel, fully automatic algorithm to enhance the detection of LV dysfunction in AS patients using multiple strain imaging parameters.

The aim of the present study was to monitor the dynamics and to measure the safety and efficacy of a live, attenuated, thermosensitive vaccine candidate, namely MA271, in geese breeder flocks under field conditions. Two rearing flocks were vaccinated with MA271 at 4 weeks of age and boosted at 24 weeks of age by cloaca inoculation (1 ml) and eye-dropping (60 µl). The geese then were transported to multi-aged breeding farms.

In winter 2016-7, Europe was severely hit by an unprecedented epidemic of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs), causing a significant impact on animal health, wildlife conservation, and livestock economic sustainability. By applying phylodynamic tools to virus sequences collected during the epidemic, we investigated when the first infections occurred, how many infections were unreported, which factors influenced virus spread, and how many spillover events occurred. HPAIV was likely introduced into poultry farms during the autumn, in line with the timing of wild birds' migration.

Bovine adenoviruses (BAdV) are known to cause respiratory and/or intestinal disease in calves. Infection can manifest as acute outbreaks, but more often only sporadic cases occur. Here we describe the PCR detection and partial sequence characterization of several BAdVs found in sick or dead calves on different farms in Western Hungary.

The mutual dependence of human and animal health is central to the One Health initiative as an integrated strategy for infectious disease control and management. A crucial element of the One Health includes preparation and response to influenza A virus (IAV) threats at the human-animal interface. The IAVs are characterized by extensive genetic variability, they circulate among different hosts and can establish host-specific lineages.

Staphylococcosis is one of the most important infectious diseases in rabbit medicine, especially in commercial farming. Previous studies revealed the existence of virulent variants adapted to rabbits. Typical and atypical, highly virulent as well as low virulent variants have been isolated and reported from industrial units in all major rabbit-meat-producing countries.

Speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) enables quantification of myocardial deformation by a generation of spatiotemporal strain curves or time-strain curves (TSCs). Currently, only assessment of peak global longitudinal strain is employed in clinical practice because of the uncertainty in the accuracy of STE. We describe a supervised machine learning, physiologically constrained, fully automatic algorithm, trained with labeled data, for classification of TSCs into physiologic or artifactual classes.

An epizootic caused by a new orthobunyavirus called Schmallenberg virus (SBV) was recognised in European ruminants in 2011 and 2012. The re-emergence of the infection was reported in several countries in the subsequent years. Although the main clinical sign of SBV infection is abortion, the impact of SBV in natural cases of abortion in domestic ruminants had not been systematically examined before this study.

Goose haemorrhagic polyomavirus (GHPV, or Anser anser polyomavirus 1) is a small dsDNA virus of the Polyomaviridae family. The virus infects the internal organs causing haemorrhagic nephritis and enteritis of geese that may be fatal for goslings. In this study, GHPV positivity was examined in goose and duck samples collected in Hungary between 2005 and 2019.

Circoviruses, cycloviruses and other circular, replication-associated protein-encoding single stranded (CRESS) DNA viruses have been detected in a variety of animal taxa. In this study, cloacal swab samples (n = 90) were examined for CRESS DNA viruses from 31 wild bird species living at various aquatic sites in Hungary to identify possible reservoirs of viruses pathogenic to domestic poultry. A total of 30 (33.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is increasingly being used to identify patients with carotid plaques that are vulnerable to rupture, so-called vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques, by assessment of intraplaque neovascularization. A complete overview of the strengths and limitations of carotid CEUS is currently not available. The aim of this systematic review was to provide a complete overview of existing publications on the role of CEUS in assessment of carotid intraplaque neovascularization.

Porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) is an emerging enteropathogen, causing great economic losses in the pig industry. After many years of quiescence, PEDV was detected in Hungary in 2016 with a recombination in its S gene. In order to determine the extent of this change, an attempt was made to isolate the recombinant PEDV.

Enteric viral diseases of swine are one of the most frequent disorders causing huge economic losses in pork production. After the reappearance of an emerging enteropathogen, porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) in Hungary in 2016, an extensive survey was initiated in an attempt to identify diarrhoea-related porcine viruses, including adeno-, astro-, boca-, calici-, circo-, corona-, kobu-, rota- and Torque teno viruses. A total of 384 faecal samples collected during a twoyear period from diarrhoeic and asymptomatic pigs of various ages in 17 farms were screened by conventional and real-time PCR methods.

Multiline acquisition (MLA) is a well-established method for a high-frame-rate cardiac ultrasound imaging, which is commonly used in conjunction with delay-and-sum (DAS) beamforming. The block-like artifacts that occur secondary to the use of MLA can be reduced using interpolation of the data acquired from adjacent transmitted beams-a method called synthetic transmit beamforming (STB). A recently proposed filtered delay-multiply-and-sum (F-DMAS) is a novel beamforming method, based on modified autocorrelation of the aperture data, which provides superior contrast resolution compared to the DAS beamforming.

We analyzed the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5 epizootic of 2016-17 in Europe by epidemiologic and genetic characteristics and compared it with 2 previous epizootics caused by the same H5 Guangdong lineage. The 2016-17 epizootic was the largest in Europe by number of countries and farms affected and greatest diversity of wild birds infected. We observed significant differences among the 3 epizootics regarding region affected, epidemic curve, seasonality, and outbreak duration, making it difficult to predict future HPAI epizootics.

Identifying and visualizing vasculature within organs and tumors has major implications in managing cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound scans detect slow-flowing blood, facilitating noninvasive perfusion measurements. However, their limited spatial resolution prevents the depiction of microvascular structures.

Here, we investigated the early development of two closely related myxozoan parasites, the highly pathogenic Myxobolus cerebralis, the causative agent of the whirling disease in salmonids, and Myxobolus pseudodispar, a common, non-pathogenic parasite of cyprinids. The aim of our study was to examine under in vivo laboratory conditions whether fish blood is involved in the intrapiscine development of the two parasite species and investigate if there is dissimilarity between the parasite infection intensity in blood and if it varies in terms of host susceptibility and parasite pathogenicity. Highly susceptible, less susceptible and non-susceptible hosts were involved.

Increased frame rate is of high importance to cardiac diagnostic imaging as it enables examination of fast events during the cardiac cycle and improved quantitative analysis, such as speckle tracking. Multi-line transmission (MLT) is one of the methods proposed for this purpose. In contrast to the single-line transmission (SLT), where one focused beam is sent in each direction, MLT beams are simultaneously transmitted and focused in several (2,4,6.

Four tick-borne encephalitis virus strains were isolated from a small 0.5-ha focus over a six-year-long period (2011-2016) in Hungary. Two strains with identical genomes were isolated from Ixodes ricinus and Haemaphysalis concinna two months apart, which shows that the virus had not evolved separately in these tick species.
