Background: In pediatric cardiology, the fact that some new biomarkers have assay-specific normal values has to be considered for correct clinical decisions. The current study aimed to provide age-adjusted normative values for NT-proBNP and Galectin-3 using the Abbott immunoassay system from a prospective French pediatric cohort sera collection and to validate our data for NT-proBNP on a second retrospective cohort.

Methods: We analyzed 283 consecutive samples for NT-proBNP and 140 samples for Galectin-3 collected from apparently healthy children (0-18 years) with outpatient treatment at our institution (Hôpital Necker-Enfants malades, Paris, France) during 24 months.

Tetralogy of Fallot is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease. For decades, our institution has cared for humanitarian patients with late presentation of tetralogy of Fallot. They are characterized by severe right ventricular hypertrophy with consecutive diastolic dysfunction, increasing the risk of postoperative low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS).

Fontan physiology creates a chronic state of decreased cardiac output and systemic venous congestion, leading to liver cirrhosis/malignancy, protein-losing enteropathy, chylothorax, or plastic bronchitis. Creating a fenestration improves cardiac output and relieves some venous congestion. The anatomic connection of the thoracic duct to the subclavian-jugular vein junction exposes the lymphatic system to systemic venous hypertension and could induce plastic bronchitis.

Unlabelled: Diuretics are frequently prescribed drugs and help managing several pathological conditions, including acute and chronic kidney disease, nephrotic syndrome, congestive heart failure, ascites, systemic and pulmonary hypertension. Diuretic classes include among others osmotic diuretics and carboanhydrase inhibitors, loop diuretics, thiazides, and potassium-sparing diuretics. In this educational article, we aim at reviewing indications, mechanisms of action, and side effects, as well as basic pharmacokinetics considerations and data on diuretics in children, supporting practicing clinicians in choosing (and understanding the background of) the best-suited diuretic regimen for the individual patient.

Background: Surgical repair of tetralogy of Fallot is usually performed between 3 and 6 months of age with pulmonary valve-sparing repair promoted for the best long-term result. Through a humanitarian program from developing countries, late complete surgical repair of tetralogy of Fallot has been performed at our institution for many years.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of pre- and perioperative data, as well as 30-days outcome of patients older than one year with a confirmed diagnosis of tetralogy of Fallot who had a complete surgical repair between 2005 and 2018 at our institution.

Since the beginning of the severe SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, an increasing number of countries reported cases of a systemic hyperinflammatory condition defined as multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). The clinical features of MIS-C can be an overlap of Kawasaki Disease (KD), Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS), or have often an acute abdominal presentation. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is recommended as first line therapy in KD.

A 73-days old infant of 34 weeks' gestation was hospitalized with a co-infection of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and . She required invasive ventilation for 9 days in the context of malignant pertussis with persistent hypoxemia and hypercapnia secondary to a leukemoid reaction. Despite an increase of white blood cell (WBC) count up to 70 G/L and ensuing pulmonary hypertension, no hemodynamic compromise occurred.

The cause of Kawasaki disease (KD) is still unknown, but an infectious origin and genetic susceptibility have been suggested. The American Heart Association has changed the guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of KD in 2017. One goal is to better identify patients most at risk, particularly young children with « incomplete » KD.
