Background: Using [F]altanserin, a serotonin 2A receptor (5-HTR) antagonist Positron Emission Tomography (PET) tracer, a positive association between cortical 5-HTR binding and the inward-directed facets of neuroticism has been demonstrated in healthy individuals. Psilocybin, a 5-HTR agonist, shows promise for the treatment of depression, reducing neuroticism and mood symptoms potentially via hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) modulation. 5-HTR and neuroticism are both modulated by HPA axis function.

Here we show that the cytoskeletal protein vimentin plays an important role in increasing cell-generated forces transmitted to the cell nucleus, resulting in increased nuclear deformations in strongly polarized cells. Using micropatterned substrates to geometrically control cell shape in wild-type and vimentin-null cells, we show vimentin increases polarization and deformation of the cell nucleus.

An expert group was conceived in October 2023 to discuss the evidence base on the use of prebiotics to promote cognitive functioning, with a focus on highlighting knowledge gaps and proposing a list of recommendations to guide this specific area of research forward. To address this, we evaluated existing systematic reviews and meta-analyses of human intervention studies that examine the effects of prebiotics on cognitive functioning.

In vitro studies have revealed that the water channels, aquaporin-1 (AQP1) and AQP3, can influence cell migration and cell-cell adhesion. Of note, we previously showed that AQP1 overexpression reduced levels of cell-cell adhesion proteins, whereas AQP3 increased levels when overexpressed in normal epithelial cells.

Here, we investigated the relationship between 5-HTR levels, clinical outcomes, and cognitive function in patients with MDD who initiated selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor drug treatment.
Methods: Ninety patients with moderate to severe depression underwent molecular brain imaging to measure 5-HTR binding prior to antidepressant treatment with escitalopram.
Synapses are fundamental to the function of the central nervous system and are implicated in a number of brain disorders. Despite their pivotal role, a comprehensive imaging resource detailing the distribution of synapses in the human brain has been lacking until now. Here, we employ high-resolution PET neuroimaging in healthy humans (17F/16M) to create a 3D atlas of the synaptic marker Synaptic Vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A).

It is unclear to what degree rumination is associated with depression severity prior to treatment and how it responds to antidepressant treatment. Therefore, we evaluated the association between rumination and depression severity in 92 untreated patients with MDD and explored the changes in rumination after initiation of antidepressant medication.

DNA methylation is often measured in blood cells, but little is known about the association between this peripheral epigenetic modification and brain serotonergic architecture. Here, we evaluated the association between whole-blood-derived methylation of four CpG sites in the serotonin transporter (SLC6A4) and six CpG sites of the tryptophan hydroxylase 2 (TPH2) gene and in-vivo brain levels of serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and serotonin 4 receptor (5-HT) in a cohort of healthy individuals (N = 254) and, for 5-HT in a cohort of unmedicated patients with depression (N = 90).

This study aimed to examine the preferences for childbirth delivery modes and pain relief methods and factors related to these preferences among pregnant women in Vietnam.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey on pregnant women was conducted in two obstetrics hospitals in Vietnam.
Background: Oxytocin is a neuropeptide known for its prosocial properties and role in social bonding, and intervention with intranasal oxytocin is posited to modulate affective and social cognition (i.e., hot cognition).

The slow reduction of HIV/AIDS infections needs to prioritise hesitancy towards service utilisation, including treatment duration, social support and social stigma. This study investigates HIV-positive patients' avoidance of healthcare services and its correlates.

The current study aims to replicate the reported association of EEG abnormality and treatment outcomes in an open-label trial of escitalopram for major depressive disorder (MDD) and explore its relationship to mood and cognition. Pretreatment, 6 min eyes-closed resting-state 256-channel EEG was recorded in 91 patients with MDD (age 18-57) who were treated with 10-20 mg escitalopram for 12 weeks; patients could switch to duloxetine after four weeks.

The shuttling of renal collecting duct aquaporin-2 (AQP2) between intracellular vesicles and the apical plasma membrane is paramount for regulation of renal water reabsorption. The binding of the circulating antidiuretic hormone arginine vasopressin (AVP) to the basolateral AVP receptor increases intracellular cAMP, which ultimately leads to AQP2 plasma membrane accumulation via a dual effect on AQP2 vesicle fusion with the apical plasma membrane and reduced AQP2 endocytosis. This AQP2 plasma membrane accumulation increases water reabsorption and consequently urine concentration.

For this purpose we developed the rhinoplasty health care monitor (RHM), a streamlined outcome measurement protocol, including all rhinoplasty patients since 2014. Statistical analyses of patient-reported outcome data are automated and visually presented on a custom web-based dashboard.

Family- and community-based social support has been recognized as a promising approach for mental disorders; however, limited global frameworks have been applied to developing countries such as Vietnam.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life and social support among patients with mental health disorders in Vietnam and to investigate the factors associated with quality of life among these patients.
Social networking is proliferating globally and in Vietnam, but this led to several negative aspects of adolescents' health, including physical activity, sleep quality, and depressive and anxiety symptoms. This study aimed to identify the relationship between social media usage and examine risk factors (Fear of Missing out and Risk of Neglect) on social media usage, and the overall quality of life and mental health among individuals actively using social media networks. An online cross-sectional study was conducted in three cities in Vietnam (Hanoi, Tuyen Quang, and Can Tho) from September through to October 2021.

Dysfunction in 5-HT signaling is implicated in major depressive disorder (MDD), a disorder associated with significant disturbances in emotion processing. In MDD, recent evidence points to altered 5-HT receptor (5-HTR) levels, a promising target for antidepressant treatment.
